President Akufo-Addo and Jeremy Corbyn discussed the role of African Union and US forces in Africa
Although the Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings are yet to kick off in London, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, are already discussing and sharing ideas about their respective foreign policies.
On Moday, April 16, 2018, the two leaders met at the offices of Mr. Corbyn, where the controversial Ghana-US military deal was brought up for discussion.
The Parliament of Ghana has already ratified the Ghana-US military deal.
However, a cross-section of the Ghanaian populace is not in support of the said deal, leading to a demonstration by some civil society organizations and opposition political parties.
Critics of the said agreement fear the West African nation has sold its sovereignty to the American Government.
They also fear that per the dictates of the deal, the American Government will establish a military base on the soils of the former British Colony.
The Government lead by President Akufo-Addo has since come out to allay the fears of Ghanaian by insisting that no military base will ever be established on the soils of Ghana by the American Government.
The duo by a large extent also discussed the role of the African Union and US forces in Africa.
In a twit by Mr. Corbyn which has since gone viral on social media, the Leader of the Labour Party also shared some of the key issues he discussed with the Ghanaian President some of which included the rights of Commonwealth citizens in the UK, trade after Brexit, and reform of the Commonwealth and UN.

The two leaders are expected to lead various discussions at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings.
