Cadres of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are calling for the replacement of the party’s register which they describe as fraudulent.

According to them, the electoral roll was hurriedly put together without first being piloted to access its integrity, which affects the document’s credibility.

The NDC while in government in 2015, compiled a new party voters register which they used for the party’s primaries on November 7, to elect their Parliamentary candidates for the 2016 elections.

But there was huge controversies surrounding the compilation of the electoral register as there were allegations that names of some members of the party were deliberately deleted to better the chances of certain candidates winning to become Parliamentary candidates.

In some constituencies such as Ledzokuku and Atebubu-Amantin, NDC youth burnt the voters register when they were released for exhibition after it was found out that certain names were missing.   In an interview with Kasapa News, one of the Cadres, Mike Allen Hammah who is the former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources under the JEA Mills-led administration said while the NDC takes steps to rejuvenate the party after the shameful defeat in the 2016 elections, a new party’s voters register must be compiled.

“We urge the current leadership of the party to call an early Congress to forestall the despondency that is fast creeping in, to be exploited by adventurists.

But before doing so, the fraudulent party register that was hurriedly put together without first piloting it to access its integrity should be replaced.

We call on well- meaning members of the party to challenge its use, if need be, in court.”
