The Ashanti region fire command on Tuesday morning foiled an attempt by an arsonists to set fire to one side of the Kumasi Central Market.
The Ashanti Regional fire commander DCFO Semekor Fiadzo who disclosed this on the Ultimate Breakfast show indicated that a fire squad stationed at the market swiftly attended to the fire after spotting some smoke billowing from a direction in the market.
Narrating the incidents he recounted, “Because of the positioning of the fire tender, they saw the smoke billowing and they quickly rushed to it to put it off. From there they started their investigations and from what they came out with, somebody deliberately wanted to set fire to the market.”
DCFO Semekor Fiadzo told host Lantam Papanko that he had personally inspected the evidence and was in the process of filing a complaint at the central police station for action to be taken.
He however indicated that the culprits had not been found out but assured that investigations were ongoing to get to the bottom of the incident.
The Fire service in the Ashanti Region has been proactive in setting up a fire post with a dedicated fire machine in the market and also trained personnel to beef up its surveillance of the central market in a bid to halt the recurrent ritual of market fires which claims fortunes especially in the dry season each year.
