The Coalition says it will take its demands to the international community
A Ghanaian political party is heavily lending support to the Coalition of Opposition Parties in Togo to have the Gnassingbe dynasty brought to an end, 3news.com has gathered.
Over the weekend, mass rallies were held across the country to prosecute the agenda to have the current president ousted from office.
The rallies, held in six cities, turned bloody and deadly, especially in opposition stronghold Sokode, where two protesters died after clashing with gendarmerie.
The Coalition has called for the head of President Faure Gnassingbe, who is husband to the daughter of former Ghana president John Agyekum Kufuor.
At a press conference on Tuesday, the parties demanded the constitution of a commission of inquiry to look into the death of the protesters.
On the sidelines of the press conference, Coordinator of CAP 2015 – one of the parties – Brigitte Kafui Adjamagbo-Johnson disclosed to TV3‘s Komla Klutse in Lome that they are receiving support from a political party in Ghana.
She said they will push for the ousting of the Gnassingbe dynasty beyond the borders of Togo.
President Faure Gnassingbe assumed the president in 2005, when his father, Eyadema, died.
He won in elections in 2005, 2010 and 2015, when he took a third shot at the presidency, a move the opposition parties have been protesting.
