The Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has expressed shock at President John Dramani Mahama's request for Nana Akufo Addo to debate him after refusing the debate organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), some months ago.

Speaking to Kwame Tutu on Frontline he stated that its barely two months to the general elections and every serious political party has sheduled programs and events and they have already arranged their activities so there is no way President Mahama will confuse them with his request.

President John Dramani Mahama has thrown a challenge has thrown an open challenge again to opposition leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to a debate on the economy. “If we have a one-on-one debate, we will all have our statistics and our figures and Ghanaians will be able to see who is telling the truth and who is not telling the truth.”

The president had accused his closet contender of running away from debating him. The President in an interview on Volta Star Radio during his campaign tour of the Volta Region said: “when I threw the first challenge, I threw it because a lot of misinformation was being thrown all over the place and Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate continue to misinform the Ghanaian public and that is why I said let us have a one-on-one debate.”

But responding to the request by President Mahama, Nana Akomea said he was amazed that that he [Mahama] cannot request for a debate with all the other presidential candidate that were qualified to contest in the upcoming polls.

The NPP he stressed will not debate or accept President Mahama's request. ''What has really changed; what has pushed President Mahama to throw that challenge?...Nana Addo will not waste his time after the party has drawn its program and events.

We cannot abandon our planned events and waste our time to debate President Mahama.'' He added, if Ghanaians wants change, then they should look other way then than the NPP. However, if they still want to suffer and experience the unbearable economic hardship, they should stay with the NDC.

Nana Akomea again expressed shock at the Chief of Staff's comments over the intake of Kalyppo. According to him, he was surprised the Chief o Staff was speaking against a Ghanaian made product.
