In-coming Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has left Sudanese side Al Khartoum Watani in a great state as he departs to take charge of the Black Stars.

The capital-based club are now among the title contenders as their Ghanaian coach seeks opportunities with his country's national team.

Appiah had his last game in charge of Al Khartoum this past weekend, overseeing a 3-0 away win over Tiraat Al Bija in a league clash.

The result leaves Khartoum seven points adrift of leaders Al Hilal with a game in hand which means if they win the outstanding game they will just be four points behind the leaders.

Al Khartoum were also-rans when Appiah took charge of the team nearly three years ago and now they among the title contenders.

That is why was given a rousing farewell by Sudanese side Al Khartoum this past weekend.

Appiah will be leaving the East African side to take up his new post as the Black Stars’ coach, having been appointed by the Ghana FA last week. He will officially begin his duties on May 1.

Appiah will have his second spell in charge of Ghana, having guided the team from 2012 to 2014.

He oversaw a successful qualification for the 2014 World Cup, but a disastrous showing at the tournament in Brazil ultimately cost him his job.

He replaces Israeli Avram Grant, who parted ways with Ghana after a disappointing 2017 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
