Medeama reject bias officiating claims by Kotoko fans

Medeama Director of Communication Patrick Akoto has rubbished claims his club’s historic 2-1 win over Kotoko in a Premier League fixture in Tarkwa on Wednesday was the result of ruinous refereeing.

The Mauve and Yellows rallied from behind to record a crucial win over the Porcupine Warriors to move out of the relegation trap net.

Kotoko have blamed star referee Issaka Afful for awarding a dubious second half penalty to the host despite the ball hitting the arm of defender Amos Frimpong.

They claim the fast-rising centre referee manufactured the result for the Tarkwa-based side, unleashing the attack dogs on the Accra-based match official.

But Medeama's Director of Communication Patrick Akoto has rubbished the claims as ridiculous.

"It's absolutely preposterous to accuse Medeama of influencing the referee," he told Accra-based Happy FM

"The ball clearly hit the arm of the defender and the referee was spot on with the call.

"Ask those making the claims if the ball did not hit the hand or arm of the player? he quizzed

"It's clearly a situation of sour grapes. They are just finding excuses for their inefficiencies.

He added: Penalty calls all over the world are relative and subjective and so it's normal for fans to complain. But it does not mean they (fans) are right.

"We had not beaten them in Tarkwa in seven years and we had to raise our game to unravel that mystery.

"They should accept defeat in good faith and move on. If there is any club in Ghana which has benefited from penalty decisions, look no further than Kotoko."

Ahmed Adams put the visitors in front with a thumping header before Paul Aidoo converted two penalty kicks to seal the famous victory for the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup campaigners.

Medeama will next travel to the Golden City Park to face Berekum Chelsea.
