Members of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) have called off their indefinite strike as a show of respect to the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

TEWU begun their strike on Sunday for what they say is the refusal of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to pay eleven classes of TEWU members their retention premium.

President Mills died in the afternoon of Tuesday July 24, 2012 after a short illness.

Last week, TEWU members began wearing red bands after a two week ultimatum expired. The strike coincides with the end of term exams in Senior High Schools.

Speaking to XYZ News ?about a week ago, Mr. Mohammed Bogobiri, General Secretary of TEWU said the group expects the stakeholders to call for a roundtable discussion on the matter, failure of which will result in their strike.

It is however not clear if the strike will resume after the weeklong mourning period of President Mills.**
