In May 2016, news went viral that Swedish coach Tom Strand had gone missing from the team hotel of Ghanaian side Medeama SC while on a Caf Confederation Cup assignment against Mamelodi Sundowns.
He had left a quit notice in his hotel room and headed for his native Sweden.
Several months later, Strand is back in Ghana and explains the real reasons behind his infamous decision in this exclusive interview.
According to Strand, he informed the club of the need to urgently go and solve some family issues prior to the trip but it fell on deaf ears.
Strand also said he had no other better choice than taking advantage of the South African trip to leave as he knew he was never going to get the opportunity once he followed the team back to Ghana after their Africa assignment.
Back home, Tom Strand took up a short term role at Prespa Birlik and is now out of job. He is back in Ghana hoping to land a deal with one of the Ghana Premier League sides.
