Maxwell and Felicity emerged as winners of the two-day golf championship
The much-awaited 2016 edition of the Masters Golf Championship ended last Sunday with Maxwell Owusu Bonsu and Felicity Okyei Gyeabour emerging as ultimate winners at the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi.
The two-day golf championship attracted a record field of over seventy (70) golfers in both the Amateur and Professional categories from Kumasi, Obuasi and Tarkwa golf clubs. A ceremonial teeing off was performed by Mr George Karam, the Kumasi branch manager of Latex Foam, on the opening day of the tournament.
Welcoming golfers to the closing and awards ceremonies at the club house, Prof.BK Baiden, a member of the current management team of the club, praised Latex Foam for their continued support of activities at the club over the years.
He assured the sponsors of the club’s commitment to making the Masters tournament better in the years ahead. He announced the replacement of the support group with a qualifying event in the week preceding the tournament weekend to select a field to join the main group.
He further indicated the expansion of the number of qualifiers from two (2) to three (3). He explained that the support category will be limited to golfers from sister clubs and other invited golfers.
Prof. Baiden also thanked The Beige Group for the sponsorship of the professional event and hoped that they would continue and expand to include more professionals from other clubs in the country.
He assured The Beige Group that they will always be accorded the necessary branding opportunities and support from the club to ensure good returns from their input.
Ms Gloria Poku, who represented the Branch Manager, affirmed the continued sponsorship of the Masters by Latex Foam. She was full of praise for the new ideas and approachesthat have been brought on board by the current management of the club.
The main group of the amateur event, played over 36-holes, was won by Maxwell Owusu Bonsu, a former Ghana Open champion, who returned a net score of -1 (143) to pip EK Bonsu on countback to take home a magnificent trophy and products from the sponsors. Paul Ahun, placed 3rd with a score of E (144) from the reigning Asantehene Open champion, Kwabena Poku.
In the Ladies event, the current Ghana Open champion, Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour, comfortably won with a net score of +7 (151) to beat the current Asantehene Open champion, Constance Awuni, who returned a total net score of +12 (156).
The support category played over 18-holes was won by a rookie, Kwame AduAfful (Royal Golf Club), with a net score of -3 (69). Michael Boateng (Obuasi Golf Club) returned a net score of -1 (71) to take the only other prize in the category.
In the professional event, PQ Amponsah from the Obuasi Golf Club took the first position with a score of +2 (146). Peter Korsah (Royal Golf Club) came second with a score of +6 (150) followed by KojoBarnni (Tarkwa Golf Club) who returned a score of +9 (153). All winners and players took away various high-value products from the main sponsors, Latex Foam.
