Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports, has said, he is happy with the progress of work done at the Koforidua Multi-Purpose Youth Center.

Mr. Asiamah made this known on his visit to the center to assess and monitor the progress of work at the 5,000 expandable capacity stadium.

According to him, the government was keen on living a lasting legacy in sports development through infrastructure, hence the decision to construct Multi-Purpose Youth Centers across the country.

“I am happy with the kind of work I have seen, the most important parts, which are the structural erections are good and looks promising.

“Stadium development is a process and this center has the required land for extensions to be done at any given time, which could see the 5,000 capacity being extended further,” he added.

Mr. Emmanuel Offei Awuku, Chief Executive Officer of Daacco Construction Limited, the contractors handling the project in an interview with GNA Sports noted that the job was about 60-70%, despite heavy downpours that hindered progress of work.

“The most important parts of the work has been done and we are about moving to the next stage of work.

“All the various stores and offices have been completed, but we are left with filling, dredging, laying of pipes and other petty works”.

According to Mr. Offei Awuku, there had not been any difficulty in funding and that they were living within their funds.

The Multi-Purpose Youth Center would house over 15 sporting disciplines including basketball, handball and tennis court, as well as an eight-lane tartan track, ICT center, counseling center, entrepreneurship center and a FIFA standard pitch aimed at creating more avenues for harnessing world champions for Ghana in the future.
