Dr Mahmudu Bawumia, the Vice President and Mr Salifu Saeed, the Northern Regional Minister have supported Real Tamale United (RTU) football club with an amount of GHC60,000.00 to help the club to return to the Ghana premier league.

Dr Bawumia supported the club with GHC50,000 while the Minister provided GHC10,000, and was received by the management of the club in Tamale, on Monday.

Mr Saeed, who presented the money on behalf of the Vice President, stressed the importance and significant role sports play in the development of the country, adding that, the donation was also to help address the financial challenges facing the club.

He said RTU remained a symbolic team and the heart of Dagbon, which represents the people within the northern region and it had been a rallying point for unity.

He stressed the need for the club to be given an institutional status to attract major investments that would be geared towards making the club more competitive in order to produce talented footballers.

Mr Saeed appealed to the private sector and other benevolent individuals to come to the aid of RTU to enable it regain entry into the Ghana premiership.

The club ( RTU) is currently competing in the GN Bank Division One League, after being relegated to the second tier in the 2013, 2014 season and have been battling it out with other division one clubs to make a return to the Premiership.

The club has produced the likes of Abedi Ayew Pele, former captain of the national team, Shilla Illiasu, Mohammed Gago, Abuga Pele, Daniel Coleman, Mohammed Fatau, Toufiq Alolo among others, who have all made a great impact to the development of RTU.

Mr Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, Technical Director and head coach of the club thanked the Vice President and the Minister for the support and assured that management and players would do their best to ensure that the club gains promotion into the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
