A Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded a 52-year-old farmer into prison custody for possessing firearm without authority and stealing.

Kwasi Musah, alias Kalomo pleaded not guilty to both charges but explained that he only went to Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), Tarkwa mine concession to hunt for games, but not to steal as the police claimed.

The accused person also informed the Court that the single barrel shotgun he used for the hunting expedition belonged to his friend and that it was a registered gun.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Faustina Selestina Anaman, told the Court earlier on, that the complaints were security officers with GGL, whilst the accused person live at Badukrom in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.

She said on April 10, at about 0830 hours, the complaint and his colleagues were on their routine patrols at GGL mining site Blue Ridge, when they chanced on Musah with two bundles of felt costing 360.00 Ghana cedis which is used by mining companies to prevent any chemical from getting into direct contact with the soil.

According to the Prosecutor, the complainants also found a single barrel shot gun, four cartridges, a cutlass, knife, and touch light when he was searched.

She said Musah was therefore, arrested and handed over to the police to help them in their investigations.

The case has been adjourned to Monday June 6 for hearing.
