Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Foundation hosts is “New and Re-emerging Infectious Disease and Global Health Security; Role of African Diaspora” Conference.




Atlanta, Feb. 14, 2017--The 15th Annual Conference of the Ghana Physicians and Surgeon Foundation will bring together several world renowned experts in the field of infectious diseases who are battling familiar as well as resurgent threats like malaria, Ebola, Zika virus and hepatitis that each year afflicts hundreds of millions of people. The Conference will be held April 21st– 23rd, 2017 at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel in Atlanta, GA.

The theme for the conference is “New and Re-emerging Infectious Disease and Global Health Security; Role of African Diaspora.” The President of the Foundation, Dr. Leticia Otchere-Darko said, “With the recent outbreaks of Ebola and Zika viruses, this year’s conference is particularly important. It is appropriate that we address these threats to global health security.”

The conference, a continuing medical education (CME) event, will cover topics on various perspectives on new and re-emerging infectious diseases and global health security. Panelists include representatives from the Ministry of Health Ghana, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Medical Association, Ghana College of Physicians Surgeons, Academia, Private Practitioners as well as presenters from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The keynote speaker for this year’s conference will be Dr. Jide Idris, Commissioner of Health, Lagos State, Nigeria and Representative to the Centers for Disease Control. Dr. Idris will be speaking to conference participants about steps taken by the Ministry of Health to stop the further spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria. At the end of the conference, the Foundation together with stakeholders will issue a ‘white paper’ on the African diaspora’s collaborative role in helping establish vibrant health systems that will ensure strong global health security.

Other major highlight of the conference is a fundraising dinner dance on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 hosted by comedian/entertainer Clifford Owusu. All are cordially invited.
