Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture,Hon. Catherine Afeku has disclosed that a report on the Kintampo disaster that took the life of twenty revelers who were mostly students was an act of God.
Twenty people died while several others sustained several degrees of injuries on Sunday March, 19 when they had gone to the site for an excursion. Several reasons were attributed for the cause of the accident including the fact that the gods of the land were unhappy because of some sexual immorality some revelers had indulged in.
But presenting a report produced by a committee formed by the Speaker of Parliament, Mike Ocquaye, Hon. Catherine Afeku said the report “concluded that although this was an act of God, a number of remote and immediate causes were identified as being instrumental to the accident”.
She also cited “a lack of focus on public safety responsibility, a lack of adequate training and supervision of personnel, poor environmental management factors, and impact of encroachers on the area which has exposed the soil to major erosion and made trees weak and vulnerable” as factors that led to the unfortunate incident.
She indicated that recommendations by the committee is currently being implemented with same been replicated in other tourist sites.
She assured Parliament that the Kintampo water falls will be ready by September.
