THe DG of NSA with officials of Golf
The Director-General (DG) of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Wolanyo Agra, has declared his outfit’s support for the Ghana Golf Association (GGA) and the Junior Golf Ghana (JGG).
He said as a growing sport in the country, golf needed all the necessary support and exposure to make it rub shoulders with the other sporting disciplines.
He added that since golf has become an Olympic sport, there was the need to develop the game at the grassroot level and also encourage the youth to participate and develop interest in the game.
He urged the associations to target the schools in other to catch the players young to develop them to win laurels for the country and added that his doors are always open for any negotiations that will lead to the development of the game.
Mr. Agra made this statement when executives of the two disciplines together with renowned golfer, Gary Alliss, called on him at his office to officially inform him of Gary's presence in the country.
Gary also known as the ‘King of Swing’ is currently running a week-long golf workshop for professional golfers in the country and will also have a clinic for kids during his stay.
He said he was delighted to be in the country and assured the NSA that he will do all he can to improve the game in the country. He added that developing the game at the youth level was one of his priorities and said he would make sure he achieved that feat before he leaves the country.
President of GGA, Dr. Felix Frimpong, thanked the NSA for opening their doors to them and applauded the DG for his attention anytime his assistance was needed.
He debunked the assertion that golf was a game for the elite in society and rather appealed to the youth and younger generations to show interest in the game as the body is willing to welcome everyone on board.
On his part, the President of JGG, Mr. Matthew Anthony, made a passionate call on stakeholders in the education sector to include fuse golf into the curricular of schools.
He therefore called on all to help achieve his call since there were a lot of hidden talents among the youth and school children in the country
