Private legal practitioner Akoto Ampaw is extremely qualified to be Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako, editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide, has said.
According to him, Mr Ampaw has all the attributes – mental discipline, meticulousness and focus – to be the occupant of the office.
There are indications President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be appointing Mr Ampaw as Special Prosecutor. The office of Special Prosecutor was one of the campaign promises made by Mr Akufo-Addo to Ghanaians prior to the 2016 polls as his way of fighting against corruption in the public sector.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on Wednesday February 22, Mr Baako said: “It is expected that he (President Akufo-Addo) will go to parliament to get a legislation to set up the office of the Special Prosecutor. If you visit page 135 of the NPP’s manifesto, they said certain things about the creation of the office of the Special Prosecutor. The relevant portion said: ‘To this end we intend to establish, by an Act of Parliament, an office of Special Prosecutor’.
“…I have heard the nomination of Sheshe (Akoto Ampaw’s nickname) thrown out there. He is a great guy, I will love it if he eventually becomes the Special Prosecutor. He qualifies or, if you like, over-qualifies. He is a very disciplined mind…focused, very meticulous…disciplined – that is Akoto Ampaw for you.”
