Bishop Boi-Nai will always be remembered for promoting peace by establishing a Peace Centre in Yendi
Kampakuya Na Andani Yakubu Abdulai, the Regent of Dagbon, has commended Most Reverend Vicent Sowah Boi-Nai, the Catholic Bishop of Yendi, for playing an exemplary role and promoting peace in Dagbon.
He said Bishop Boi-Nai will always be remembered for promoting peace by initiating dialogue and establishing a Peace Centre in Yendi to ensure that peace prevails in Yendi and Dagbon as a whole.
Kampakuya Abdulai said apart from promoting peace Bishop Boi-Nai also worked hard to establish a number of Primary and Junior High Schools, St. Vincent College of Education and various health centers and clinics in the Yendi Municipality.
He said since the 1994 Northern Conflict and the 2002 Yendi Chieftaincy Conflict, Bishop Boi-Nai has worked hard by organizing meetings, seminars, workshops for peace to prevail in Dagbon.
The Regent of Dagbon made the commendation in a speech read on his behalf during the Pontifical Mass for the 40th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Most Reverend Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai at the St. Martin’s Pastoral Centre located at Sunson in the Yendi Municipality.
He said the Bishop will always be remembered by the people of Dagbon, particularly people of Yendi for his sacrifice to sustain peace -organizing special prayers with his Justice and Peace Committee for the area.
Father Pius Laten, Bishop’s Secretary, who read the Bishop’s biography, said Most Reverend Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, the first Bishop of the Yendi Diocese of Yendi, was born on January 1, 1945 at La- Accra.
Fr Laten said upon his installation as a Bishop of Yendi, he worked tirelessly to bring the Diocese to greater heights.
He said he convened the first Pastoral Day in 2001 and again a Pastoral Assembly in 2009 to enable the Diocese to carve out a clear vision and Pastoral Orientation.
He said he began with six parishes in 1999 and it has now expanded to include Yendi, Bimbilla, Saboba, Tatale, Chamba, Chereponi, Gushegu and Sambuli.
Fr. Laten said through his instrumentality he initiated and executed Orphanage built at Makayili, Holy Spirit Senior High School at Chamber, St. Jude Training Centre at Chereponi, Nazaretei Home for God’s children at Sang, Catholic clinic at Barchabordo, and ST. Vincent College of Education in Yendi.
Bishop Boi-Nai expressed his appreciation to all the dignitaries who attended the event and thanked the SVD Ghana Province for building his capacity to be what he is today.
He expressed concern that the alleged five witch camps in the Diocese have become centres of tourism.
Bishop Boi-Nai said they are working hard to ease the plight of the marginalized people living in such camps, and fostering inter-religious dialogue and ecumenical relations as means of promoting peaceful co-existence
Alhaji Hamed Abubakar Yussuf, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, praised the Bishop Boi-Nai for partnering with the Assembly to establish various projects in education and health amongst others.
