Hohoe Municipal Assembly unhappy with conditions given to Muslims
The Hohoe Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) has appealed to the Gbi Traditional Council to refrain from setting conditions for the Muslim community there.
The appeal follows report Wednesday that the Gbi Traditional Council has set preconditions for the Muslim community after communal clashes between the indigenes and Muslim community led to loss of lives and property.
The statement issued by MUSEC urged the media to refrain from discussing what are supposed to be conditions for Muslim community. The full statement issued by MUSEC PROPOSED CONDITIONS FOR ZONGO COMMUNITY IN HOHOE
It has come to the notice of the Hohoe Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) of purported conditions set by the Gbi Traditional Council for the Zongo Community in Hohoe as a result of the recent disturbances in Hohoe, between the indigenes of Gbi and the Zongo community in Hohoe.
The MUSEC would want to inform the general public that, it is yet to receive the PROPOSED REPORT spelling out conditions for the Zongo Community in Hohoe. When the report is submitted, it will be forwarded to the Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) for further deliberations and fine tuning with all interested bodies i.e. REGSEC, MUSEC, the Gbi Traditional Council and the Zongo Community. It is only after these discussions have been held and an agreement reached, by all sides that such conditions will be made public and implemented.
MUSEC will therefore urge the media to exercise restraint in discussing what has been put out in the public as it has the tendency to negatively affect the process of getting a workable condition acceptable to all parties.
MUSEC also wish to call on the Gbi Traditional Council and the Zongo Community to refrain from discussing the content of the said conditions in the public, and allow the process to take its course since it is not the final document according to the arrangement.
MUSEC would want to assure the general public especially residence of Hohoe that it is in full control of the security situation, and will continue be neutral in order to play its role of protecting lives and properties in the Hohoe township.
