UFP sacks flagbearer
The dream of Kumasi based businessman, Akwasi Addai to become the president of Ghana hangs in the balance following his dismissal from the United Front Party.
The decision was taken by nine out of the ten regional chairmen of the party as well as five national executives including the national chairman.
They accuse him of using the name of the party to solicit funds for his personal upkeep instead of channeling those monies in to the party’s account.
National chairman of the party Nana Agyenim Boateng told Joy News’ Elton Brobbey the decision was arrived at after an emergency National Executive Committee meeting.
“Ever since we elected him from 10th December, 2011 he has not been able to tour the whole of the regions or the constituencies.
“We think he is not somebody we can’t rely on him anymore and he is not trust worthy; he is not accountable; he has failed to cooperate with the party.
“…He is not bringing anything on board, if somebody donated some money on behalf of the party through him then he will ‘harbour’ it. He is using the party for his own personal interest and not for the sake of the whole party,” the chairman said.
He said the flagbearer appears to have his personal agenda other than that of the party.
He said the party will go for Congress to decide whether to go in for an alliance or to elect another flagbearer.
But the dismissed flag bearer of the party Akwasi Addai told Elton Brobbey the allegations against him are flawed.
He said the NEC of the party comprises of 41 people, alleging the NEC could not form a quorum to take such a decision.
He dismissed allegations that he used the party’s name to solicit for funds for his own personal benefit but admitted he has not begun any form of campaign because the party is yet to launch it campaign activities.
