Why then does the Government have to waste more money on a bureaucratic committee to advise it on how to phase the relocation of the President's office? And why are the issues of security and logistics only now being considered, when it should have been known before or at the time of construction what the security and logistics implications would be?
My guess is that this excercise has been carried out before and the relevant reports have either shelved or are gathering dust in some obscure corner.
This is just another "job for the boys" committee likely to be filled by the NDC party faithful, some of who will no doubt acquire a house or luxury car by the time the committee has completed its work. Not to mention of course the lucrative contract that will be awarded to repair leaking roofs(so soon after completion???) and to replace the air conditioning system!

Flagstaff House will be election issue

Their refusal bordered on arrogance and indifference, failing to realise that the Jubilee House as it was originally called wass built with funds that the tax payer has to pick the tab for at some stage. Changing the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House was a clear indication that the NDC government's nose was out of place simply because their darling boy (Mr Rawlings) had made no effort to provide a suitable place of occupation and governance by the presidency during his nineteen years in office whilst Kuffuor's government within eight years made such provision. Failure to occupy the edifice has resulted in the building suffering from unoccupied premises syndrome which renders a property as bad as a property invaded by squatters. Posterity will not forgive the Mills - Mahama administration for this immature act of vindictiveness. They should have known that by it was not the NPP administration but the entire nation that would suffer from their failure to occupy. Why this suddden u-turn by Mahama to occupy this building? Might it be because of the upcoming elections? Did the Chief of staff who is now accompanying Mahama to Flagstaff House advice Mills to move there? Serious questions need to be asked as this government does not appear to have much sense of direction. With the Yotong driver now gone, his aplanke has jumped into the driving seat. Allah help us so he succeeds in taking us passengers to the station so that we find a much safer means of transportation to take us safely to our destination. Ghanaians should ditch the NDC and vote for any of the opposition parties come 7th December.

It seems, by his actions, that Mahama does not care about Ghana's fate in the face of global and domestic socioeconomic development; otherwise, he would have waited for the dust to have settled before launching his book. There is absolutely no need for this for all the security concerns were addressed before and during the consruction of the presidential palace. Come to think of it, Kufuor even used it for a few weeks before exiting. The NDc just fears the backlash considerng their opposition to its construction. NDc should not waste any more of our money by setting up this unnecessary committee and knowing them I have no doubt that it is yet another shameless opportunity for them to fleece the nation by way of dubious allowances for the committee members.

Author: FOR THE LOVE OF GHANA Posted: 2012-08-21 19:33:25 i find it very pathetic that most ghanaians have no idea the extent of the crisis ghana is facing, and so instead of objectively and critically commenting on important issues affecting the nation, we focus on things like the height, the ethnicity, the sexual orientation etc of prospective leaders, instead of worrying about their intellectual,organisational, management and leadership competencies. any patriotic ghanaian who genuinely loves our country only needs to travel outside the coutry for a little to see how far behind our country has gone in terms of economic and social development among others. other countries that obtained independence long after ghana did are even more developed than us.
our healthcare system is a complete mess, (to the extent that even the president cannot have a doctor attend to him in an emergency) and it is a shame to see the condition in which sick people are supposed to receive treatment even in big hospitals like korle bu and komfo anokye.
our educational system is no good, with lecturers going on strike here and there, and after going through the system, our gradutes from the universities and polytecnics and other institutions cannot even find jobs.
The filth in accra, the capital city is appalling, and yet we expect to be able to compete for tourists. God has blessed us with beaches and other natural buties that we could develop and use to make money as is being done in places like hawai - where the only source of state income is tourism, and what do they have? just beaches. what is the ministry of tourism doing about this, and why should a teacher, or a nurse or a tomato seller pay tax so that the minister of tourism can ride in a luxury car with a motorcade and live in government bungallow (which belongs to the tax payer) for free, when we are not reaping any benefits from his position? And how do you expect a tourist or an investor to travel to ghana when ordinary electricity is going on and off everyday? Any sensible investor knows that bulding a factory (which will create jobs for our people)is not sustainable because our electricity is unstable. Why is this problem still pending after so many years? every year, the level of akossombo damn goes down and we have to endure load shedding, and none of our energy ministers, not even the presidents, have seen it fit to resolve the problem once and for all; yet they must be paid every month with tax payers' money, the reason? simple, the load shedding never affects the areas where the ministers live, and if by some mistake their lights go off, tax payers' money has been used to buy generators for them, which they fuel also with taxpayers' money, and so they dont have to endure the dum so dum so that the tax payer is forced to endure. Is this right?
An ordinary amenity like pipe born water is still not acessible to some residents of the capital city as at the year 2012, talk less of residents of other cities and towns. This is a complete disgrace, but we have lived in it for so long that we have accepted it as normal, and nobody is being held responsible, eventhough human beings are recieving salaries for supposedly providing us services in this sector. This is the biggest disgrace for us as ghanaians, and the first turn off to any investor or tourist, and yet, the politicians responsible are taking their salaries - tax payers' money - every month and doing nothing beneficial for ghanaians. another example - what is the misitry of youth and sports doing about the mirriad young men and women selling dog chains and other items on the streets? what future do these people have? and if life gets too tough for them what vocations are the young men likely to turn to? what about the young women? your guess is as good as mine. where are the jobs? The minister responsible for youth and employment must be held accountable - he must show proof that jobs are being created to get these people sustainable income so they can get off the streets, before he will be deserving of our taxes and all the benefits he is enjoying as a minister.
Violent foriegners are flooding into our country from left and right to commit armed robbery and all sorts of crime and to corrupt our youth with their violent nature, fulani heardsmen raping and beating our men and women (some of whom are taxpayers) with impunity. what is the role of the minister of interior who uses taxpayers' money to pay security men to guard him while the taxpayer is not receiving any protection? How safe and secure is our country daytime and nighttime?
our currency is shamefully depreciating by the second and this is undeniably the first sign of poor economic management - every country in the wold admits this simple theory, and yet, our politicians are riding in some of the most expensive cars that even presidents of super power countries dont ride in, they are living in luxurious houses and sending their children and girlfriends to expensive schools abroad with the tax payers' money ( and i have seen this happen with my own eyes, i just dont want to mention names of current and past politicians involved), while these same tax payers cannot even afford to buy books and uniforms for their children to go to cito. If what they have done to our educational system is good, why do they send their children to school abroad?
and why waste tax payers money to travel abroad for medical care (and both NPP and NDC politicians are guilty of this) instead of improving healthcare in ghana so that the taxpayer who is paying for your trip can also have access to the same well equipped hospital with well paid, satisfied and caring doctors and nurses when they are also sick? Our politicians are in no way held accountable for mismanaging our economy for their selfish benefit and that of their relatives.
it is absolutely sad that instead of looking at things this way and holding all politicians accountable, educated ghanaians who are capable of reading and writing, politicise everything they see in the news and focus on rumours instead of hard facts. Ghana is descending deeper and deeper into poverty everyday and we as ghanaians are wasting our time on irrelevant issues which we make noise about for a season, only to forget in a short while.
I will rest my case here and urge all well meaning ghanaians who trully love ghana to start thinking in this direction. ghana first, not tribe or ethnicity or party. A politician is the tax payers' employee, who works for the tax payer in order to be paid with the tax payers' money and not the reverse. So, who can do the job better? Who will be selfless and not think only of enriching himself and his relatives, but about enriching ghana as a whole. Those are the kind of leaders who led the super powers to where they are now, so that in return, they would earn a good name, and those are the kind of people we also need. Where can we find such a leader? This is the question we should ask ourselves. There is only one Ghana and Ghana is our only motherland, our only home, and there is no place like home. think about our descendants who will come after us and make wise comments and decisions which will lead ghana in the right direction, and leave party politics to the politicians. thank you
