...That the late President Mills was meek is not debatable. Perhaps Prof Mills’ only mistake was that he trusted his handlers to a fault; even to the point of ignoring the good counsel of his beloved Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills against that of a withering leaf like Brig-Gen Joseph Nunoo-Mensah! These handlers were the same people former President Rawlings once rightly labelled as “greedy bastards”. President Mills’s health issues were made public way back in 2006/2007. Hon Teye Nyaunu then called on the NDC to elect a new flag-bearer when it became apparent that then Presidential Candidate Mills was unwell. This matter lingered on even into the good Professor’s tenure until he met his untimely death on Tuesday, 24th of July 2012. Readers may recall Herbert Mensah and Ato Ahwoi’s exchanges on radio when each accused the other of being the first to make public the late President’s hallucinatory symptoms in 2010. One would have thought that in the face of the prevailing circumstances at the time, the Prof Mills’ handlers would have been a bit more cautious with their handling of the President but like Victorian Task Masters, they didn’t care a hoot! For the sake of their bellies and their insatiable greed, they pushed and shoved the poor man to his early grave to the chagrin of Naadu Mills and the entire citizenry. These are indeed avaricious and vain ignoramuses eating with both hands and parading the corridors of power!.....

Author: Sten Darxon Posted: 2012-09-21 03:39:27
Is it an error or a deliberate action by Ghanaweb to block out part of this headline which states "NPP's Free Education....." from the main news page of the website? Just wondering but looks fishy.

WICKED PEOPLE(NDC)

Author: ewe Posted: 2012-09-21 04:03:00
The NDC claims they want quality education but LOOK AT WAY they way they started the implementation of the JSS.1) Lack of teachers .2)lACK OF TEXT BOOKS 3)lACK OF IMPLEMENTS to mention only a few. Toadd insult to injury they sent their kids to abroad to study Even their leader says he won't tell us how he was able to funds his kids education.Mahama had his fair share but telling Ghanaians free education is not possible. This the man who wants to rule for another 4years.He wants the north to enjoy while cocoa farmers kids pay school fees. This is the party you support.

Free education could be chaotic

Author: Kojo Posted: 2012-09-21 04:58:47
Nana Akuffo Addo’s Free Senior High School Education Policy could easily jeopardize the quality of education in Ghana. The fact of the matter is that many classrooms would be choked. Teachers would be overburdened in their supervisory activities and marking of scripts would be extremely difficult due to high number of students in schools. Consequently, thousands of students would be withdrawn from the high school by school authorities for non-performance in order to achieve quality education and to ease the burden of teachers. Many parents may be tempted to send their wards to Private Senior High Schools where they would gain better and quality education.

I wish to caution President Mahama to address the Category 2 and 3 allowances for teachers as soon as possible. Your opponent has declared “Teachers First” in order to win teachers who seem to determine the winner s during elections. Teachers are very influential in our Ghanaian communities. “Teacher First” is as powerful as “Self government now”. These teachers might vote massively for Nana Akuffo since they think their condition of service may get better when Akuffo Addo assumes office. Dr. Nkrumah won the 1951 election because he promised the youth jobs. Prior to election in1951, the youth were facing acute unemployment problems. So far as many teachers work hard but are poorly paid, they may be tempted to vote for Akuffo Addo. Teachers they were not properly placed under the single spine

how quickly we forget

Visionary what??? Why didn’t they do it in the 8years they were in power? Because NPP was busy selling Ghanaian properties in various countries, setting up useless rentals designed to cost us forever and pocketed billions of US dollars!!!! Have we forgotten ALAN CASH??? And did Akufo Addo get his money???!!! NPP SOLD GHANA’S OIL BEFORE IT WAS EVEN AVAILABLE AND SINGLE INDIVIDUALS ARE REAPING BILLIONS AND ‘STUPIDILLIONS’!!!And don’t get me started about the flourishing cocaine and drug business in their regime…and this is the tip of the iceberg

NPP 'Free Education' achievable?

Author: Anang Akanbekbisa Posted: 2012-09-21 08:23:57
There are millions of young Ghanaians who have successfully completed various levels of education ranging from SHS to Politechnics and even universities but have no JOBS!!! What is the use or benefit of their education? 'Free education' versus earning jobs. Which of these two will be a wiser choice for Ghana now? When people work and earn salaries or wages they can take care of their children's education? This will enable government to spend this 'free education' money on hospitals, roads, agriculture, industries and even schools? Jobs before 'free education' and not 'free education' without jobs? Makes sense? It is time all Ghanaians remove our party blinkers and wear NATIONALISTIC ones!!!

Nana is a Joke

Author: Okofo Posted: 2012-09-21 11:21:55
The congregation included GNAT, NAGRAT and Parent-Teachers Association representatives but none of them spoke in support of Nana Addo's proposed free education because they all no that its a total fraud. The question is what is the state of Nursery, Primary and JHS schools? Children are staying out of nursery, primary and JHS institutions and that is not the concern of Nana Addo. Ghanaians must shine their eyes bse this desperate man will do everything possible to throw dust on the eyes to have his way. From his costing and sources of finance this policy if by chance is implemented it will collapse because the economy cannot sustain. The policy is like putting up a roof of a building without a solid foundation.

SHAMEFULL COMMENTS

I.K. Gyasi, it is shame that you cannot shed your NPP bias and cloak. Off all our national priorities, free SHS does not rank high at this time. If you and your NPP cohorts see this as the sure banker and great deception to get people to vote blindly for your leader who is bereft of ideas, so be it. Save yourself the iota of respect that some people still have for you. This free SHS mantra is self inflicted on you by your leader. I would rather have the constitutional FCUBE properly implemented that have a free SHS. What you NPP folk did by inflicted and impelementing a 4-year SHS without planning and preparing for it must never be allowed to happen again. Ghanaian's a crying for development,, but free education is definately not a our top priority. We would rather have better roads, stable water ad electricity supply, employment opportunities etc. so that we can pay for our children's education. Not all of us can afford to send our children to SOS, Ghana International, Galaxy International etc. So please don't attempt to spoil we have just because you have imposed on yourselves a presidential candidate who were it not for his bestowed family would not have even tasted University... and yet graduated with 3rd Class Honors.

WHAT ARE THE SPECIFICITIES?

Author: MARCUS AMPADU Posted: 2012-09-21 12:18:44
At this juncture in the debate, the question shouldn't be about preferability, feasibility, doability, or achievability. Rather, we should begin to talk about specificities:

1. Number of students we are talking about
2. Estimates of how many will be day students versus boarders
3. How many trained teachers will be involved?
4. What do we mean by quality education, how does it look like? What does it entail?
5. What preparations are being made for the increase in the number of students - additional classrooms, libraries, laboratories, instructional materials
6. How are we preparing for students with special needs - school psychologists, school nurses, guidance counselors?
7. Curriculum development - what new subjects do we want students to learn? It can't be business as usual
8. How are school administrators going to deal with the additional responsibilities?
9. What will be the impact of fee free education on parents and the community at large?
10. What will be the likely impact on tertiary education?
11. What will be some measurable goals of the free education policy?
12. How are we going to determine the success and failure of the free SHS education?

Before supporting or opposing the proposal of fee free education, it behooves all of us to
consider some of the specificities enumerated above.

FREE EDUCATION? I THINK NOT

Author: Jagosk Posted: 2012-09-21 13:15:06
Parents send their wards to school but no classrooms, libraries, workshops, laboratories to accommodate them and equipment to learn. The issue of free education therefore carries no weight in so far as infrastructural problems and lack of learning materials continue to haunt our schools. May those preaching free education turn their attention or focus on addressing these needs in our schools with the expected money to spend on free education. What we need now is quality education and not access to education. Parents should be able to pay for their wards education as government provides infrastructural needs of our schools.

BE REALISTIC!

Yes but will all schools be boarding or day schools? How will they choose boarders and day student. Good idea but will be still born.

AKUFO ADDO HAS LOST IDEA AND IS FULLY AWARE THAT GHANAIAN HAVE SHORT MEMORY AND WOULD NOT HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE FOR FAILED POLICY.

AKUFFO ADDO IS AWRE THAT GHANAIANS ARE VERY TIMID PEOPLE AND WOULD NOT GO FOR HIS NECK IF HE FAILS TO DELIVER ON THE SO-CALLED FREE EDUCATION AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL.

AKUFO ADDO KNOWS VERY WELL THAT GHANAIAN HAVE FORGIVEN RAWLINGS AND EVEN VOTED FOR HIM TO BE PRESIDENT OF BEAUTIFUL GHANA.

GHANAIANS ARE COWARDS AND FULL OF EMPTY TRIBAL-ETHNIC POLITICAL FIGHTING
AND WE VOTE OUT OF FEAR.

WHY IS 91% OF ASHANTI-AKYEMS ALL VOTE FOR TRIBAL ASHANTI-AKYEM PARTY, UP-PP-NPP AND HAVE NO BRAINS TO REASOIN THAT BY VOTING FOR NPP IS JUST LIKE VOTING FOR RAWLINGS WHO PROMISED EVERYTHING TO CHANGE GHANA BUT RATHER TO LINE HIS POCKET AND YET MOST GHANAIANS ARE BEHIND HIM.

AKUFO ADDO WANTS TO BECOME PRESIDENT JUST BECAUSE HIS FATHER WAS NOMINATED PRESIDENT. AKUFO ADDO KNOWS VERY WELL THAT HE LACKS THE CHARISMA, DECENCY, INTEGRITY, TEMPEREMENT AND FINESS TO BE PRESIDENT OF BEAUTIFUL GHANA.

AKUFO ADDO KNOWS THAT THIS ELECTION IS HIS LAS "CALLO" OF THE SPAR AND DOWN TO HIS GRAVE SHOULD HE LOSE THE ELECTION.

AKUFO ADDO KNOWS THAT ALAN CASH KYEREMANTENG WOULD HAVE WON THIS ELECTIO HANDS DOWN BUT HE IS NOT A FULL ASHANTI-AKYEM TO BE THE FLAGBEARER OF ASHANTI-AKYEM TRIBAL PARTY NPP.

AKUFO ADDO KNOWS VERY WELL THAT UP-PP-NPP CRITICISED OSAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH'S COMPULSORY FREE EDUCATION AND THE AKOSOMBO DAM AS "WHITE ELEPHANTS"

AKUFO ADDO KNOWS VERY WELL THAT ALL GREAT VISIONS OF OSAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH WERE CRITICISED BY UP-PP-NPP AND HERE WE ARE STEALING THE VERY VISION THEY CRITICISED.

AKUFO ADDO'S SO-CALLED FREE SHS EDUCATION IS A DESPERATE ELECTIONEERING PLOY OF A DESPERATE FLAGBEARER WHO HAS NOTHING TO OFFER SAVE SHOOTING BEFORE HE AIMS.
