Boxing trainers to dialogue with GBA over proposed congress

pic 41201547 The United Boxing Coaches Association, says it’s ready to meet the executive of the Ghana Boxing Authority to discuss the roadmap for a proposed congress. The coaches who have been main advocates for the change in leadership at the GBA boycotted a meeting last Thursday which was to decide a final road map to the congress the coaches have been agitating for. The current GBA executive has outlived its original two-year tenure and this prompted calls for a congress to elect new officers.

In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports Godwin Nii Dzanie Kotey (Coach Alloway) explained that his outfit only stayed away from the meeting because his outfit was unsure about the date. “We will just sit back deliberate on what to do and take the next step. I believe that the invitation extended by the Ghana Boxing Authority to us was in the right direction,” he told Joy Sports.

This stage of the restructuring process brings to an end the major disagreements between the coaches body and the GBA. “Nobody wants to break the neck of boxing in Ghana. We all want to move forward and that is what we want. It is just unfortunate that certain incidents happened that caused the chaotic situation in boxing,” Coach Alloway said.

In a separate interview the spokesperson of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Mohammed Amin Lamptey also admitted that the proposed congress can be executed with all stakeholders contributing to the process. According to him the Coaches body is key to achieving this. The Ghana Boxing Authority has admitted that a proposed congress to elect a new executive cannot be executed without the United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana. Mohammed Amin Lamptey speaks for the Ghana Boxing Authority and says the coaches are key to the restructuring process.

“We all agreed that we wanted to have a common committee to put together the modalities for the congress. But unfortunately, once we don’t have the coaches, the board has agreed that we re-invite the coaches to join us for a meeting set for October 2 so we can look at all the issues and set up a committee to draft a constitution,” Amin Lamptey said.
