Author: KOOBOYE Posted: 2012-10-02 00:59:04 This is not going to work. There are too many corruption in the office. Even try to take a new car to DVLA office to register, the officers will refer you to a third person outside the office to help you so that the third person will charge you extra then at the end of the day all the DVLA employees will get part of the money. it is very sad

Re: DVLA to Introduce New License Regime
Author: Sally O Posted: 2012-10-02 01:46:57 Please sort the problem from the root cause.
1. All drivers need to take standardised written & practical driving test, no "libilibi"
2.The roads need comprehensive refurbishment/repair & tarmac
3. Install more traffic lights
4. Vehicles should be road worthy, those not worthy should be removed and crashed.
5. More traffic wardens employed.
Government should have our nation at heart; and plans should be put in motion to start asap please.
Penalty on Drvers lisense
Author: Curtis Alhassan Posted: 2012-10-02 01:51:31 The penalty/endorsements on the Driving behavior should be accompanied with financial cost too.
Re: DVLA to Introduce New License Regime
Author: Asante Posted: 2012-10-02 01:56:58 Mr. Amegashie, your ideas are good but clean your house first. Too much corruption in your department. Also, there are too many loopholes in this. A policeman wld take a bribe instead of reprimanding a driver. how do u check that?
My view
Author: dedon Posted: 2012-10-02 01:57:39 I think suspending their licenses for some period without driving will deter them more than amassing points. here in China, if you are caught drunk driving, you will face a 6 months license suspension. your license will be seized and instantly filled in the systems so that you cannot get another license no matter who you're, after the suspension period, you go for a new license text before regaining a you license. caught over speeding is strictly 1000 yuan which i think its about 300ghc. these measures a quiet deterrent enough to deal or reduce indiscipline on our roads.
Re: DVLA to Introduce New License Regime
Author: KOO-SWISS Posted: 2012-10-02 02:05:49 It is a loudable ideal, but you should take into considerations that not all the accedents are the drivers fault, some are purly mechenical, poor road &it designs for eg- accra kumasi on a single lane, in all the developed world there are beam blockages and all the high & motorways are dual carriages, .
there are also experts to determine what realy went wrong, b4 institute some panalties.if the experts found out that it is not the fault of the driver but due to poor road ,the government must pay conpensation to the victims- to keep the government on her toes to do the right thing to help the people.
they must also see to it that all the insurance companies are doing their job properly.insurance companies are collecting blood money without any help to the motorits
DECENTRALISE DVLA
Author: OH GHFUO, we are so far behind! Posted: 2012-10-02 02:07:22 I DONT UNDERSTAND THE MYOPIC THINKING OF MY GHPPL. WHY MUST EVERYTHING BE CENTRALISED LIKE WE LIVE IN A COMMUNIST NATION. U KNOW ITS NOT WORKING, SO WHY DONT U CHANGE IT? I DONT GET IT. DECENTRALISE THE DVLA. ALLOW EASH REGION TO HAVE ITS OWN DVLA AND CONTROL AND RUN IT. EACH DVLA HEAD MUST BE MADE ACCOUNTABLE. ALL THE DVLA HEADS MUST BE TASKED BY THE MIN OF ROADS N TRANSPORT TO GO TO S AFRICA, US OR CANADA AND LEARN NEW AND IMPROVED METHODS OF ADMINISTERING EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. DONT BE SHY. JUST GET UP AND GO! THESE PPL IN THESE WESTERN NATIONS WILL BE HONORED TO HAVE U COME TO THEM FOR ADVICE.

Author: bosiako berlin Posted: 2012-10-02 02:18:12 This system exits in germany where i live and acquireing a driving licence does not allow one to misbehave on the road.Let it work please .
qualify Driving Instructors
Author: Kwame T Posted: 2012-10-02 02:41:54 It is a good start. Demerit point alone is not enough unless it is supported by a better infrastructure in the country. Ghana is not better maintained including the absence of roads signs and speed limit. Drivers should undergo a rigour training course, drivers must prove competencies in reading, understanding and writing road signs and agreed to obey road rules, before a driver will be allowed to drive on a road.
It will not work
Author: bruhahaaaa Posted: 2012-10-02 03:08:50 It will be waste of tax payers money and a way for the police to take bribes.
We need better roads, road lights at night and driving schools.
The number one course of accidents in Ghana is the bad roads and the no road light at night..
MR AMEGASHIE IS THAT TRUE?
Author: paa joe (U S A) Posted: 2012-10-02 03:13:16 Sir, how long u've been with DVLA? And of a sudden u talking abt this at the time of general elections or smbdy told you? Have u talk to your boss at the ministry for a visa to any of these countries to study how it works? Have u fixed the pot-holes, stop signs, traffic lights, etc. How will the gym help people who are applying for drivers licence? Where and when will these start or just the regular lies hha?
Re: DVLA to Introduce New License Regime
Author: kobbina Posted: 2012-10-02 03:17:19 compare those countries you are refering roads to ghana roads and you will see the penalty cannot work here with this corruption in that office.
Re: DVLA to Introduce New License Regime
Author: Kofi Posted: 2012-10-02 03:29:15 I have a small message for the DVLA boss in Ghana. Please don't rush and copy Europe especially United Kingdom. The question is who will monitor these point system? Police? Please don't say yes. Most accidents in Ghana could have been prevented if Police work genuinely. They will collect money from divers and let them go without any points.
Secondly do DVLA have enough computers to record these points ? Don't forget the lack of electricity (load shedding) which will last till 2013? What about the introduction of the vehicle testing centres he mentioned? Is good but I am afraid for its introduction. Please DVLA should work with the MTU police and let them sit up first else Mr boss you will Waite Ghanaians money
Education, the key to safe driving
Author: Kwabena Posted: 2012-10-02 04:32:46 This is another ploy of the DVLA to extort money from innocent drivers, period. What has this got to do with safe driving? Education, the key to safe driving.
RE:DVLA to introduce ............
Author: KWAME Posted: 2012-10-02 05:01:39 Dont let these talks end here, DVLA boss. We have seen too much of these attitudes from people given the responsibility to be in charge of our institutions. It is better to keep quiet and never do anything so that society identifies who you are or you talk and deliver.
We should endeavour at all times to be action oriented and this is the only way this country can change for the better, I hope.
Transparency in my view, can reduce corruption substantially. When society is well informed about government plans and actions, it will be difficult for people in the public service to cheat patrons of government service. I wish to see the day when well defined structures and systems are put into place in the public service to facilitate business and the provision of service.
Stealth Tax For Police and Economy
Author: Chikay Posted: 2012-10-02 05:09:00 I dont wish to be a doomsayer, however who is going to police this points system. For me this will not act as a deterrant, but rather a money making scheme for the police to fleece drivers of more cash on top of what they are already doing.
Other way of taking bribes
Author: Daniel K. S Posted: 2012-10-02 05:35:56 why directors or officials at DVLA and Polce MTTU are always allow to decide on how to take bribes from poor drivers? example of such decision is road worthy. We paid GHc 25.00 to GHc 30.00 but receipt issue is GHc 8.00
Re: DVLA to Introduce New License Regime
Author: KOFI ASARE Posted: 2012-10-02 06:42:06 The main problem here is that, there is no data base to work with,no cameras, poor driving standards and the devil,ie BRIBES
Sort out the roads first!!
Author: Blessed Ghana Posted: 2012-10-02 08:11:04 Sort out the roads, then we are talking!!
Re: DVLA to Introduce New License Regime
Author: Iwan Posted: 2012-10-02 09:00:24 They should also remember that in some countries the licence is renewed only when you hit 70 not every two years like we do here.
DVLA-POLICE
Author: Asaem Posted: 2012-10-02 09:04:49 DVLA is corrupt itself, go and check Tarkwa office. the police, if they do their work well and stop collecting ghc 1.00 and ghc 5.00 from commercial drivers and rather correct and arresst when necessary, accidents will be a thin gof the past.
Laudable steps but why always Accra?
Author: de Posted: 2012-10-02 10:52:06 Let the DVLA give a face-lift to their Regional and District Offices. The various regions and district offices and their clients also deserve a more conducive work environments. Accra will forever be choked until gov't and various state institutions, and corporate institutions seriously repackage their growth and dev't policies and strategies to pragmatically embrace others regions of Ghana.
An over due strategy
Author: The NewYorker Posted: 2012-10-02 23:41:00 This should have been done long ago.In the USA if you compare the number of vehicles plying the roads to the number of fatalities it is a small ration compared to Ghana. Once you accumulate a certain number of points you are put out of the roads and the authorities ensure it. In Ghana, even the DVLA boss is a hypocrite when it comes ot enforcing the law.
