Nana Addo, Rawlings meeting smacks of hypocrisy - NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is saddened by the meeting between its founder, Jerry John Rawlings and the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The ex-president and Nana Akufo-Addo met on Thursday at the request of the latter. The meeting was meant to create a congenial relationship between principal actors in the political scene leading up to the December elections.

But a member of the NDC communication team Fred Abenyo says the attitude of the formal president smacks of hypocrisy especially when he criticised the late President Mills severally for trying to make peace with his political opponents.

Mr Agbenyo was particularly unhappy about the Ex-presidents comments that seem to suggest that Nana has a chance of becoming the president.

“We remember the attacks on the late President Mills especially from the founder of our party that he is not prosecuting the NPP people, he is not jailing President Kufuor, he is not jailing Nana Akufo-Addo,” he lamented.

Mr Agbenyo said, he will leave the matter to the judgement of the people of Ghana who are witnesses to the attacks meted out to the late president by the former president and the opposition for working to ensure a harmonious existence.

Meanwhile pollster Ben Ephson Jr. says the NDC could play Thursday’s meeting to its advantage.

Mr. Ben Ephson insinuates that even though Nana Addo may want to be seen as a peace maker, he is guilty of insincerity since it was during his time as foreign affairs minister that the NPP government stripped Mr. Rawlings of his diplomatic status.

The political Analyst believes Nana Addo called the meeting purely on convenience bases.
