Telcos want review of communication tax

pic 91306489 Telecommunication operators are calling on government to review the Communication Service Tax possibly in the 2013 budget.

The Value Added Tax is imposed on Telcos for transfer of calls from their network onto other networks.

But the operators are arguing it should be a consumer tax and not for businesses.

General Manger for Financial Planning and Analysis at MTN, Kofi Boadu Amoama told Joy Business at the pre-budget consultative meeting for next year’s interim budget that “typically, the VAT is for the consumer”.

“We’ve made a presentation to government on this matter, it should be re-looked at,” he stressed.
