So how is this free? At the end of the day, somebody ( People ) somewhere ( Ghana) will pay for it. Your argument that it is an 'imperative' holds. But to say that it is free begs the question. The man of God argument is that, you cannot say it is free when indeed it is the taxes of parents that are used to fund it. he is right, practically speaking. I am not sure, Otabil has ill feelings against the NPP. In the past he has spoken strongly against the NDC policies. In 2000, the man of God was tagged as an NPP by elements of the NDC. I am convinced the intention was to share his perspective of this concept which has taken a centre stage in this year's election and bandied about by politicians.

I think it can not be possible bcos more taxes will be collected from poor workers, what I think should be done is more jobs should be created, if the economy is okay I think nobody will complain. We said NHIS is free but the money is being taken from workers salary. NOTHING IS FREE. Do not deceive us for votes.

Who is this?

Listen to a so-called professor too!! Is he a real educationist or one of the concert party "Professors"? What education has this educationist given us on the matter? He has only exposed himself as a man without backbone. Shut up if you have nothing to say.

Nonsense, you often use Western paradigms to explain the unexplainable non-western problems. STOP COMPARING APPLES AND MANGOES YOU ARE NO AUTHORITY ON SCHOOL FUNDING.

Leave it alone to give credence to your professorial rank.

Very hollow argument for the international audience. What do you know about K-12 school funding in different western nations, Mr. Agyeman? This is beyond your purview!!

This is an intelligent man that Ghana need in this century.

prof himself is confuse of the word free

Author: Abdul Posted: 2012-10-30 04:22:50
I think the prof himself cannot explain what is 'free' and is forcing it on us to believe in the free education tantrums of his party. Prof, what is not free can not be branded as free. Ghanaians are more intelligent than this cheap properganda. We are not so ignorant and gullible to take in any thing from anybody who wants to play with words with us because of politics. it would not wash prof, with due respect.

We Need Free Education!

Thank you Prof. What I think Ps. Otabil should know is what persentage of the people on Gov't payroll. The majority of the people need it, and be financed with oil etc monies not necessarily with tax. Is Otabil suggesting to us that John Mahama who benefited from free education is not quality, according to his analysis? Prof please continue to educate us and encourage Nana to do it for the masses!

NDC Can choose to pay Judgement debt

Author: Esther Posted: 2012-10-30 04:32:13
Just as NDC Continue to pay fraudulent Judgment debt, just as all government pays for the construction of roads and other infrastructure; pays doctors and security personnel all from taxes collected from Ghanaians, the NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo will pay for the implementation of the Free SHS with the same taxes

MENSAH OTABIL SERIOULY REGRETED

Author: NII LARTEY NARTEY Posted: 2012-10-30 05:08:42
I strongly believed Mensah Otabil came under a demonic attack to make such a shamefully derogatory statement against the brilliantly conceived inspiring idea to make SHS education free.

For sure he is absolutely regrets opening his mouth wrongly as that is not his style after serious thought on the national issue.

Is he exposed to be selfishly material centered protecting his hugely invested education business? The answer is absolutely double YES!

He got it all wrong with his pants down. What a shame!!

I do not agree with this man. By the same token services provided by govt like water, electricity, Tema motorway tolls, public hospital etc should be free, because we pay taxes. What a professor are you. All this people, they call themselves professors.

SHS: Middle class swindle

Author: Osei Yao Posted: 2012-10-30 05:46:14
This elitist middle class teacher thinks of himself as educationist. Free fee, uniform, lunch and compulsory JHS is prerequisite for free SHS. If this is not done free SHS is only for urban middle classes. Children of rural farmers who produce the wealth of the nation will sadly be left out. Coming form the NPP, this is no surprise, for whom property owning democracy means grabbing state lands for themselves!

Hopefully the very people rejecting free SHS would be the immediate persons to run for the privilege. That is when NPP wins these elections into 2013.People are born to lead because it is a gift from God to be born as A FIRST son or daughter. Mahama should exercise some patience and wait for the Lord's Time. Nana is by older, bless to even to have given birth to him. Secondly,it is the call of God for Nana to rule Ghana so wait and listen to the voice of GOD.Amen.

A typical politicized educationist.
Where is your research, case study, or published paper to back up your assertion? -
"Free education should be seen from the context of the parents"
A flat statement without clarifying its import.
You cannot ignore the socioeconomic status of the parent. The glaring inequality among Ghanaian parents cannot be glossed over or discounted in this debate.

Free education means equal opportunities

Author: Kofi Boaten Posted: 2012-10-30 12:51:03
You wonder whether those opposing free education can be convinced to understand that it is free at the point of delivery. The Professor is right about the need to avoid double taxation and use the resources to benefit all to eliminate discrimination. In the UK, healthcare and education up to GCSC (equivalent to ('O'level)is free to all children at the point of delivery. This ensures equal oportunities for all. Even then, not all children will take this great opportunities and benefit from free education. Some of the comments from our leaders are pathetic. Those who benefitted from free eductaion are the ones opposing the NPP free education proposal. Somewone asked the simple question on OK FM today. What job will Alban Bagbin will be doing today if he had not had access to free education. Please give me an honest answer to the question. Countless number of people like Alban who ENJOYED FREE EDUCTAION ARE NOW CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF GHANA. We want able and determined children to have the opportunities which otherwise would be denied them for lack of money to be educated and help the motherland.

OPAYIN PROFESSOR, NOBODY DOUBTS OF FREE EDUCATION IN GHANA.

HOWEVER, THE QUESTION IS HAVE YOU EVER ASKED YOURSELF HOW MUCH WILL IT COST THE NATION AT THE TIME THAT,YOUR UNIVERSITY IN WINNEBA STLL LACKS MANY STRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT TO MEET INTERNATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION STANDARDS.

SECONDLY ARE YOU AWARE OF THE BROKEN INFRACTURE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY, THAT ARE STILL IN SHAMBLES WITHOUT WATER, ENERGY, TEACHER COMMON ROOMS,COMMUNICATION,LIBRARIES,GOOD EQUIPPED LABORATORIES AND WORKSHOPS, Etc, ETC,Etc..

THIRDLY, WHAT IMPACT HAS THE EDUCATED AND GRADUATES THAT HAVE BEEN PRODUCED IN THE COUNTRYS HAD ON THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF GHANA.

ARE CYOU AWARE THA,EDUCATION IS ANCHORED IN THE CONSTITUTION OF GHANA DRAWN IN 1992.

ONE WOULD ONLY WONDER WHY KUFFOUR AND AKUFFO-ADDO WERE NOT ABLE TO IMPLEMENT IT WHEN THEY WERE IN POWER.

lET AKUFFO-ADDO STOP HOIS POLITICS OF DECEIT.

NOTHING IS WORSE THAN ACTIVE IGNORANCE.

We Have Had Enough of The RHETORIC !!!

IT IS TIME FOR THE NATION TO TAKE AWAY THE TITLES FROM THESE NOISY POLITICED PROFESSORS IN THE COUNTRY.

HAVE THEIR TITLES AT THE PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES MADE A SENSE THEM TO BE CALLED ''PROFESSORS'' IN A COUNTRY THAT WAS DECLARED AS A HIGH INDEBTED POOR COUNTRY(HIPC)IN THE WORLD KUFOURS TIME OF OFFICE AS PRESIDENT OF GHANA.

THIS MEANS,THE RIGHT PROFESSORS AS PRACTICAL PROFESSIONAL INNOVATORS ARE STILL NOT oN HAND TO TURN THE WHEELS OF INDUSTRIALIZATION, AND TO ACCELERATE ECONOMIC GROWTH,INCOME, CONSUMER SPENDING AND BETTER STANDARDS OF LIVING IN GHANA.

WE PRETEND TO KNOW BUT WE DO NOT KNOW.

A free SHS is achievable in Ghana.

Author: CONTROL-K Posted: 2012-10-30 21:04:58
Even though I am poor and cannot afford the SHS for my kids, I am willing to pay a School Tax once a year to give my kids and all other kids the opportunity of a lifetime to acquire an SHS education. This is done in even advance nations.
We must vote for Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumiah for they have plans to help all our children. The direction of the NDC where only the privilidge few suceed in Ghana is wrong and they must be stopped.

FREE EDUCATION WILL NOT BE FAIR

Author: BENJAMIN KUSH Posted: 2012-10-30 21:18:45
HOW MANY STUDENTS SHALL BENEFIT FROM THE FREE SHS WHEN ONLY 1% WILL GAIN ADMISSION INTO THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS.THE 99% WILL BE THROWN ONTO THE STREETS OF ACCRA AND KUMASI TO SELL DOG CHAINS.LET US CONSIDER THEM ALSO BECAUSE THEY WILL BE A DANGER IN OUR SOCIETIES.THIS IS INJUSTICE BECAUSE FREE EDUCATION IS NOT EQUAL TO MASS PROMOTION.WHERE ARE THE CLASSROOMS FOR THOSE WHO WILL GET AGGREGATE 20-40.?

Free education

I visited Accra Ghana this past Summer and I believe Ghana should educate all of its children. I saw young children listening to what was going on at a private school in La Paz. I wanted so much to provide schooling for this children whose parents can't afford it. It works in the US and it can work in Ghana. Be the first to come out of european education. Try to US education system. A great country, I want to return ASAP and offer my skills to help Ghana continue growth and stability.
