JHS SHOULD BE DONE IN FOUR YEARS, NOT...
Author: DANKWA Posted: 2012-10-30 06:56:45 The JHS level of education should be extended to cover four years duration and it should be upgraded to Secondary School status.
SHS should then be upgraded to Sixth Form or A-Level offering status of education that adequately prepares intakes for tertiary level of education or lower level grades of employment.
POOR JHS EDUCATION
Author: VAVIOTO Posted: 2012-10-30 07:14:01 SUPERVISION IN THE JHS SCHOOLS IS VERY POOR. SUPERVISION MUST BE HIGHLY INTENSIFIED TO RAISE THE STANDARD OF EDUCATION AT THE BASIC LEVELS.
I admire your courage
Author: Jeff, UK Posted: 2012-10-30 07:14:02 Your view is probably the truth but, like what it has always been, you will be branded as being in bed with government. Pray, the NDC remains in government after Dec 7, or forget it. You will be without a job. I admire your courage, though
FREE SHS NOW!OFORI ADJEI IS SICK!
Author: BBC!!!!! Posted: 2012-10-30 07:14:50 OFORI ADJEI YOU DONT SEEMS TO BE SENSIBLE AT ALL.
A GREAT MAN OF GREAT OPINION
Author: kofi ghana Posted: 2012-10-30 07:35:53 IT IS SIMPLE: YOU HAVE NOT SPOKEN AS A POLITICIAN BUT GHANA FOR YOU. YOU HAVE SAID THE TRUTH. I HOLD THE SAME VIEW. FREE SHS WILL BE A NON-STARTER NOW. ANY ONE WHO WANT TO VOTE FOR THE NPP CAN DO SO BUT PLS NOTE THE FREE SHS IS A HOAX.
GES should check supervisors!
Author: John Kpeglo Posted: 2012-10-30 07:40:12 CSĀ“ are terrible! In fact, the whole supervisory and monitoring unit of GES should be overhalled! They go on supervision, recieve heads of plantain, money, etc and let things lie as they were! Teachers and their supervisors must be blamed as well as PARENTS who pay bribe for cheating at exams!
IRRITATING! AND CHASS QUITE FOR SO LONG?
Author: Frank Mensah, Tikobo No. 2 Posted: 2012-10-30 07:41:39 This is irritating to some of us who have said the same thing for years. The whole JSS/SSS system is a bunch of trash. This makes the feed to the tertiary system even crappier. And yet the Vice Chancellors of the numerous universities are quiet, some pastor-chancellors are even joining the government to destroy it further so they can make their money, CHASS is quite, parents are quiet and helpless, politicians are sending their children to foreign schools, the NDC keeps cutting down the years even further. One time minister for children said the system must be shorter so girls can come out of school and marry - at 16. This is the educational system created by revolutionaries.
you are right!
Author: JIDO Posted: 2012-10-30 07:53:43 You are absolutely right with your assertion. Our main focus with regards to education must be on the basic level, and that is exactly what his excellency, John Dramani Mahama is intend doing when retained in power instead of making an empty promises by some political leaders which they themselve is fully aware that those promises are not feasible at the current state of our economy.... JM ALL THE WAY!!!
Re: Poor JHS education must be arrested first - CH
Author: Dan Posted: 2012-10-30 07:56:34 Well done Mr Ofori-Adjei. I share the views of the well-meaning people comenting on this article. Why should some of our brothers politicise every statement on this issue. Why not give your view why you support free SHS if you have any and stop insulting people for their views. These issues at the basic level will not just disappear without any effort if/ when Nana Addo comes into power. We are not doing our candidates any good by insulting people who challange their plans. We shut them up, they cannot correct the rough edges.
OH! president of CHASS
Author: agya Posted: 2012-10-30 08:23:36 it is never true the education at the JHS level is poor.English language which is the language of instruction in the Ghanaian educational system is the challenge. Mr president of chass look at the example you set. Note that accademic intelligence is not synonymous with writing and speaking good english but understanding some concepts and principles that can help people to create wealth and developoment. The second major challenge we face in Ghana is the corruption some heads of assisted SHS engage in to better their SSS pay, robbing parents who wake up at down to engage in the sale of perishable food stuff to look after their children. We know how some of you hide behind useless PTA to charge and prevent some better students from going through secondary school. The free SHS is a constitutional provision and it is God sent. The time is now.
Re: Poor JHS education must be arrested first - CH
Author: Michael Posted: 2012-10-30 08:29:22 The man has stated the truth without commenting on the current debate of 'free education or no free education'
Why some people want to twist his words to support one party or another is puzzling. But if we should politicise his view we have to remember that the poor quality he laments exists under the current government and the NPP has not commented on how they will improve it either.
Therefore the truthful conclusion of the matter is that neither the NDC nor the NPP has a clue what is going on, or they don't care.
God save Ghana.
Re: Poor JHS education must be arrested first - CH
Author: koomson Posted: 2012-10-30 08:33:13 This is true , some private schools exchange results of public schools in order to gain popularity. WAEC should sit up about those who finalized grades

JJ's legacy; rotten educational system
Author: Pelicles Posted: 2012-10-30 08:49:08 I remember the old system of 10 years of primary school till the devil descended on us with his quack revolution.
The current rot in the schools is the legacy of JJ and his stupid "we no go sit down make them cheat us anymore" mantra and what is the end result?
How many of his children tasted the food he prepared for us? If the educational policy he implemented was good, why did he send his children to be educated in Europe?
These are some of the things that portrays the man as "sadist, cold-blooded murderer, someone who is full of malice".

Author: BBC NEWS!!!!! Posted: 2012-10-30 09:21:07 Npp overthrew Dr.kwame Nkrumah for making a free stuffs, so why this UP/ NPP Tradition terrorist PARTY turn around making everything free in GHANA including FREE HOTEL FOR KAYAYE?
Results of Free Education
Author: Egya Nda Posted: 2012-10-30 10:33:46 That is exactly what Mensah Otabil is talking about. Nothing good comes out of anything that is free. It is not the free that matters but the quality and that is why most parents prefer sending that wards to private schools and institution.
Free SHS is a threat to nations security
Author: Don Posted: 2012-10-30 10:45:39 Ghanaians must not be moved by the free aspect without considering the impact the policy will have on other equally important sectors of the economy since we cannot raise extra revenue without sacrificing others. For example if the month ends and the government cannot afford to pay workers what will happened or hospitals collapse or there is not power for industries. This are the things that can happened if we don,t thinkthrough. What about if the policy fails and the government implements the ROPA in order to rig future elections to stay in power due to their follow to implement the FHS and Ghanaians resolve to vote them out? The policy is good but not ripe for the current e onomy situation
Re: Poor JHS education must be arrested first - CH
Author: Kofi Posted: 2012-10-30 11:41:29 It must start with the primary schools not JHS. If students can read by the end of class one, they can use that skill to learb further.
THIS IS COMMONSENSE
Author: Joe Nti Posted: 2012-10-30 13:15:57 Why is the common sense position eluding so many people? Is it sycophancy or bigotry?
THE DAY GHANA ERRED IN EDUCATION.
Author: USMAN Posted: 2012-10-30 13:52:32 The day ghana erred in education was when she equated the BECE cert. to the O'Level and the WASSSCE to the A'Level. Anybody in doubt should verify from the FWSC's salary scale. That same scale also made the Diploma in Basic Education higher than the HND. This is the root of the mess in the education system. We need a complete overhaul of the whole system. If Nigeria who introduced us to the current system still practices the common entrance system then who are we? Another important issue is that the professional teachers hijacked the basic school sector, chased all the pupil teachers out and made that sector their sole preserve. A sizeable number of these professional teachers are university graduates and even some of them, especially those in the cities, hold masters degrees. I hope you can now see how useless university education is? No wonder Ghana now has a lot of scholars who cannot even write books.
PROBLEM DOES NOT LIE WITH JHS NOR SHS
Author: MARCUS AMPADU Posted: 2012-10-30 15:38:04 I will keep harping on the metaphor of a leaking boat. Our educational system is like a a badly leaking boat. We've got to repair it before coming up with all these vote seeking promises to build more schools, and to make SHS fee free.
The problems and challenges facing our educational system are huge, far bigger than the dearth of classroom blocks or the inability of parents to bear the cost of educating their children. It really doesn't make sense to attribute the problems to one of the cycles within the system. Ofori-Adjei's lambasting of JHS education should be taken with a grain of salt. Nor can we justifiably blame all the key players involved.
Other than our self-seeking politicians who don't have the foresight and the fortitude to work with educationalists, parents and stakeholders to overhaul and restructure our educational system to meet 21st century standards and basic developmental needs.
It is asinine and cowardly to run from the challenge of collaborately building a new boat with a newly trained crew to take our young people on a lifelong quest for knowledge and self-development.
