"Professor Ken Attafuah expressed that though homosexuals are not exempt from the laws that prohibit the practice of sodomy, bestiality and other sexual misconducts; their rights are humans should be respected." Do we have a scientific basis for promulgating these laws or did they come out of some other social influence?

Why are people being so Homophobic here? Are Ghanaians scared that they might contract GAYNESS? Two consenting adults choice of sex should be the least of the Governments worries. Try making a law that says it is unlawful to live in poverty first, cos that is the most pressing issue, and in the meantime let Gays be gays and Lesbians be lesbians.

Gay right is also human right

Author: Kwabena, Toronto Posted: 2013-02-01 03:37:28
Gay/lesbian right is of huge concern globally. It is perhaps the biggest human rights issue of our time just as civil rights for African Americans were in the 1960's and freedom for all South Africans was, and finally accomplished in the 1990's. Therefore, Ghana as a civilised and democratic society has no other option, but to respect and protect the rights of other citizens with alternate sexual preference or lifestyle.

GOD WILL SURELY JUDGE!!!!!

Author: Sebastian Parker Posted: 2013-02-01 03:37:54
LET US NOT BE JUDGMENTAL. GOD WILL JUDGE EVERYONE ACCORDING AS HIS WORKS ARE. THE RIGHTS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL IS PROTECTED IN THE CONSTITUTION AND THE SAME CONSTITUTION CAN CURTAIL THE RIGHTS IF IT INFRINGES ON ANOTHER MAN'S RIGHTS. IF OUR SOCIETY FROWNS ON THEM, WITHOUT KILLING THEM, THEY WILL BECOME ALMOST USELESS. LET'S LEAVE THE HOMOS FOR GOD.

Hypocrites

Most of the people in arms against Nana Oye's stand for human rights, including those of homosexuals are the most guilty of the misdeeds they impute to homosexuals: un-natural carnal knowledge. How many of them can swear that they do not practice oral or anal sex even though are apparently heterosexual? Hypocrites!

Good morning Mr President, I suggest that the position should not be given to Oye Lithur. No one hate's Oye Lithur, but the fact that our conscience is not serving us right Religiously, she does not deserve the position. Please remember that on campaign platform you raised up your heard towards heaven and said it is only GOD and not the constitution. Knowing that though the constitution is what guided the country, GOD is SUPREME which means His is consent about us. We use our constitution to work as a country yet we pray and ask God for His guidance. Please do not let the spirit of God, the believe you have in Him die out. Be strong and courageous knowing that the voice of the people is the voice of God as you have always said. Please drop Madam Oye Lithur. Stay bless.

Ghana is now a state; a collection of diverse preferences and tastes. Rights of Gays should be protected.

Prof. Attafuah is Twisting Ghana's Law

Author: TKG Posted: 2013-02-01 08:21:25
Prof. Attafuah is quoting the constitution to suit himself. Whilst I do agree that no one should be discriminated against we, Ghanaians, must bear in mind that every country's constitution is written based on certain principles i.e. constitutions are written based on a country's history, culture, religion and environmental orientation.

There is nowhere in the constitution that its framers say "no one shall be discriminated based on his or her sex or sexual orientation". Neither section 15 nor 17 which the Prof has sometimes quoted is explicit on the matter. What the Prof. is using public space to do is to say to Ghanaians that Section 15 has an implied meaning. I personally do not think so. If that section could explicitly say what category of people's orientation can not be discriminated against, I do not see why the framers of the constitution can not call 'sex' or 'sexual orientation' by its name. I believe that the framers of our constitution bearing in mind our culture and religion chose not to include that which is obnoxious in the eyes of Ghanaians. May I make a proposition here and that is: if homosexuality is to be allowed regard then it will be equally wrong for a charge of public indecency. If the law should be changed it will first have to be tested in court. Gays as humans have a right but how do we separate crime from the criminal? There are two forms of rights - inherent rights (God given) and earned rights such as those imposed by the state, societies or clubs etc. There are no rights without responsibilities. Anyone who wants to enjoy his/her rights as laid down by the state should work towards it. Gays have right to life (God Given) yes, but they also have a duty to their state and society by being law abiding citizens. Will Prof. allow any of his children to be a gay or lesbian? If no why? If yes why?

If there is no single sect or community in Ghana which allows the practice why should intellectuals like Prof waste public time in insisting on a subject which has no bases in national law and culture? Homosexuality is foreign, leave foreigners who want to practice it to do so. We have copied many things blindly in the name of civilisation, democracy and human rights. This is not good for a nation that is struggling to feed its poor, provide good roads, uninterrupted power and water supply.

I read on Ghana web a student counsellor from one of universities in the country urging the President to come out with his position on the matter. This is another arm twisting event. The President's position should not be different from his predecessors. What even if he had a position, can he change the law without contest? Should that be his priority? If those proponents of Lesbianism or whatever it is called want to secure their so-called rights let them grant asylum to such people and stop holding Ghana back.

This Oye Lithur is an angel of light.Even animals respect natural sexual law. God did not create two men to live as husband and wife. Even animals know this. Out side all faiths on homosexuality, common sense makes it absolutely madness, shame, evil etc. Oye Lithur if you have nothing to do, don't do it in Ghana.

Some school of thought would have preferred Nana Oye Lithur to turn the heat from homosexuals to talking about how to protect women, children and the old people more especially how rapist and domestic violence victims cases would be handled in consultation with the police, the domestic violent community protection watch dogs, mental health and other analogous institutes. She can call for help from some criminologists who will do some comparative criminology by learning and researching by benchmarking the best practices of what pertains in Europe. There are more rapist and domestic violent cases more on the increase more un reported cases than reported cases. We are ready to help her work. Congratulations anyway.

I don't have anything against homosexuals but my question is:

There are lots of women who engage in and like anal sex. Why don't these men find a women who like anal sex and be with them instead of being with same sex patners?

To me, a man is not supposed to be
f-cked. period.

This is just my opinion.

Position On Homosexuality

Author: Adwoa Peadzeyei,NY Posted: 2013-02-01 12:33:29
The issue of homosexuality is very thorny and must be handled with much care.In as much as it is some people's choice of lifestyle,I think they should not allow it to influence the youth and the little children. It should be behind closed doors,as it used to be in the 70s.They should not be allowed to infect our future leaders with whatever sickness it is.This thing is foreign and never near anything Ghanaian, but our tendecy to embrace anything foreign has given birth to these mishaps. What will be the next, incest, beastiality? The fact that somebody likes to do something bad does not make it right for people to approve and adopt it as a lifestyle.Homosexuality is wrong in every way. Therefore, let's be careful.Thank you all.

HOMOSEXUALITY NOT AN AFRICAN CULTURE

Author: Akora Posted: 2013-02-01 17:13:59
Prof Ken Attafuah by your name I am inclined to believe that you come from Akim Area and precisely from Oda. Homosexuality is not an African culture. Sexual activity is between MAN AND WOMAN. Anything outside that is an ABOMINATION. Is against the will of GOD. Anybody who engages in that or favours it will surely face God's wrath. The people of Ghana should not entertain this NONSENCE. Prof. Ken Attafuah and Oye should know where they come and try to enshrine their culture, defend and uphold the good name of their ancestors. God Bless Ghana.

Disingenuous Professor

Homosexuality is a practical construct, so dstop dancing with theoretical precepts, professor. I will respect anyone who stands up unabashedly and state their position on the issue, but to waffle in legalities is an insult to one's intelligence.
