Teachers are still in the classrooms - Ayariga

pic 52139115 Information Minister, Mahama Ayariga has revealed that contrary to media reports of strike by members of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Ghana National Association Teachers (GNAT) across the country, teachers are in the classroom teaching.

“Indications I had, sending people round was that some teachers were still teaching.”

The Minister however assured parents and students to remain focused on the preparations for their examinations because there will be no distraction of any sort; “the issues of GNAT, NAGRAT and teachers generally will be addressed appropriately.”

According to the Minister, efforts were being made to address the concerns of the giant associations.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and NAGRAT on Friday announced at a joint news conference in Accra, their decision to stay out of the classroom beginning Monday, 18th March, 2013 until their grievances were addressed.

Government subsequently invited the two bodies to an emergency meeting at the seat of government over the weekend in an attempt to convince them to rescind their decision.

The meeting according reports was inconclusive.
