Kosmos, Odotobri Rural Bank support farmers

As part of the Farmers Day celebration which was held nationwide on Friday, KOSMOS Energy donated items worth more than GH¢18,000 to the Western Region Coordinating Council to support the day in three coastal districts in the region.

The items included a 40-horsepower Suzuki outboard motor and its accessories, fishing nets and floating accessories as part of the prizes for the farmers for their contribution to the country’s development and ensuring food security.

The items, according to Kosmos Energy, were for the Ahanta West, Jomoro districts and Nzema East Municipal Assemblies.

Presenting the items, the Administrative and Finance Director of Kosmos Energy Ghana, Mr Kofi Opoku, said the company had made it a point to support the celebration of farmers every year.

Receiving the items, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, commended Kosmos Energy for its continuous support for the celebration with the focus being the celebration of farmers.

The Odotobri Rural Bank also supported eight districts in the Ashanti Region towards the 2013 Farmers Day celebration.

Each of the beneficiary districts received pulmic sprayers, wellington booths and crocodile machetes, writes Ernestina Kyerewaa Oppong, Jacobu.

The beneficiary districts are the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Amansie Central, Obuasi and Bekwai municipalities, Adansi North, Atwima Kwanwoma, Afigya Kwabere and Asokore districts respectively.

The Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Alhaji Siaka Baba Ahmed, who made this known at a ceremony to present some of the items to the Amansie Central District Assembly, said the donation formed part of the bank’s social responsibility.

In all, the bank gave out 120 pieces of crocodile machetes, 96 pairs of wellington boots and 40 pulmic sprayers which cost the bank GH¢6,400.

The District Chief Executive for Amansie Central District, Honourable Dede Appiah, thanked the management and staff for the kind gesture.
