Nobody can stop me from campaigning for Akufo-Addo - Amoako Tufuor

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako Tufuor maintains the 2012 presidential candidate of the party is their best bet for election 2016.
According to him, aside Nana Akufo-Addo none of those vying for the flagbearership slot can deliver victory for the NPP.
Dr. Amoako Tufuor was reacting to a statement issued by a group calling itself NPP Youth for 2016, accusing him of sabotaging the party's victory in 2016.
The group said his [Tufuor] recent utterances on internal party issues “are dangerously designed malice which will put the NPP on the path of self-destruction and defeat”.
They added that Dr. Amoako Tufuor’s continuous aspersions on candidates vying for the flagbearership slot deepens the cracks in the party and makes it unattractive to Ghanaians.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Dr. Amoako Tufuor said he is not perturbed by such distractions.
He said just as everybody is entitled to support a candidate ahead of the national delegate congress of the party in March 2014, he is also at liberty to campaign for his preferred candidate.
“Nobody can stop me from campaigning for Akufo-Addo. I supported former president Kufour in 1998, the late vice President Aliu Mahama in 2007 and now I know Nana is the best candidate” he added.
Describing the allegations as baseless, he claimed the supposed youth group are being sponsored by “ambitious people” within the NPP who wants to lead the party at all cost.
“Even critics of Akufo-Addo acknowledge the fact that he [Nana] is the most popular person in the party why not NPP members?” he quizzed.
Dr. Amoako Tufuor was unequivocal in his view that it will be politically suicidal for the NPP to elect another candidate over a visionary leader like Akufo-Addo.
