The theme for the celebration was “Credit unions unite for good, a better way.”
He described the theme as appropriate and said the union was prepared to assist those who were determined to do something for themselves.
Mr Larbi said the International Credit Unions Day had been celebrated since 1948 to reflect upon the role of the credit union movements.
He said credit union schemes all over the world operated on the spirit of co-operation, collaboration and unity and pointed out that the celebration was to educate people on credit union movement and give them the opportunity to join the scheme.
He commended the Tema Chapter for its co-operation and support in making this year’s event a success and advised Ghanaians to use the credit union scheme to promote pragmatic and prudent financial practices.
The Board Chairman of the Tema Chapter, Mr Makafui Sebuabeh, disclosed that there were about 56,000 credit unions globally that were vibrantly promoting the credit union idea and providing financial assistance to members.
Earlier in the day, members of the Tema Chapter of the union went on a health walk and a float to create awareness of the celebration.
