Sachet water producers welcome pre-paid meter policy

Sachet and bottled water producers have welcomed the Ghana Water Company’s plan to introduce a prepaid metering system.

The Water Company plans to introduce pre-paid meters for water consumption for commercial and industrial customers due to the willful non?payment of charges by a number of large-scale users.

Speaking to Citi News President of the Sachet Water Producers Association, Magnus Nunoo was hopeful that the introduction of the meters will ensure an improvement in services from the GWC.

“What I would not want is this, that we will rush into it and then although the meters may be effective, after payments of bills the water will not flow,” he said.

According to him, operational issues such as these should be looked at because issues such as these have happened in the past.

He advised the management of the GWC to assess and test the meters before the exercise is rolled out to avoid confusion.
