Investor interest in Ghana is very high - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has described as fruitful the discussions engaged in by the Ghana delegation at the just ended World Economic Forum in Davos.

The President made the comment upon his return from the forum in Davos, where he was engaged in various discussions and bilateral negotiations.

Briefing the media at the Kotoka International Airport, President Mahama indicated that his interactions with the many world leaders and businessmen at Davos brought to bear a great level of investment interest towards Ghana.

“The sessions were fruitful; we attended specific sections that related to Ghana. The first one was responsible mining and extractive industries to discuss issues of illegal small scale mining and other challenges that arise as a result of mining activity."

The Forum which was under the theme "The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business," also saw the President discuss issues concerning power and energy on the continent.

“Some of the main issues that were discussed were issues of inequality in the world; how we can re-shape the world economy such that the rising inequalities are ameliorated."

The conference also saw world leaders and businessmen engage in discussions aimed at bridging the gap between the rich and poor for a better world.

President Mahama further expressed optimism about the interest shown by several businesses in investing in Ghana.

“There were also bilaterals that we held with many investors who are either investing in Ghana or have an interest in investing in Ghana."

"The conclusion I came away with from Davos is that investor interest in Ghana is very high and we should take advantage of that interest, but also we must put in place strategies that allow our economy to grow and create employment and jobs for our young people," he stated.
