MP defends “shoot to kill” order to constituents

Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North constituency in the Ashanti region, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has defended his directive to constituents to “shoot and kill” stray cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen that enter their farms.

The comment deemed inflammatory has been condemned by the Ashanti Regional Security Council which described the directive as unfortunate.

The National Fulani Chief, Alhaji Mohammed Mingle, has also condemned the MP's statement, saying it could instigate violence between the people of Agogo and the headsmen.

But Kwadwo Baah Agyemang in an interview with Citi News said he still stands by his words and challenged the police to arrest if what he said has offended any law in the country.

According to him, the order is for self-help because the security personnel in the area have turned a blind eye to the atrocities being committed by the Fulani herdsmen.

Citing the killing of Agogo residents, raping their wives and destroying their farmlands as an example, the Asante Akyem North MP vowed to champion the cause to bring relief to his constituents.

“If the security people think we are going overboard, they should come and intervene. I’m always around if the police are after me they should come for me,” he stated.

Mr. Baah Agyemang said he had no regrets for the comments.
