We'll demonstrate again if ... - Kenyase residents

Some residents of Kenyasi and Duase in the Kwabre East district of Ashanti region are planning another demonstration in one month if the roads linking their communities to Kumasi are not refurbished and reconstructed.

The residents on Monday embarked on a demonstration to press home their demand for their roads to be fixed.

A day after, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Kofi Opoku Manu promised construction works will soon begin on the Kenyasi road.

But during a community meeting, the residents agreed that if the roads are not fixed, they will demonstrate again and until their demand is met.

Some of the leaders of the communities in an interview with Citi News after their meeting, gave their word to keep calm “but if we don’t see any improvement in a month, we are going to embark on another demonstration…we still have our spirits up.”

One of the leaders said they do not regret their earlier action “because we are fighting for our rights and we are taxpayers. This cannot pull our spirits down.”

He threatened that if they have to sacrifice their lives for the roads to be fixed, it will be done saying, “if it means putting our lives down for the roads to be fixed, we are ever ready to do that.”
