Duke Micah dedicates WBO Africa title to trainer Lartey

2012 Olympic Games participant Duke Micah who has turned professional and won all of his 12 fights through the knockout has dedicated his latest victory to his coach, Lartekwei Lartey of the Fit Square Gym in Accra. According to Micah who also won the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Amateur Boxer of the year last year said he has great hopes and ambition to become a world champion. He expressed his feeling to take on any of the world champions with all the different sanctioning bodies.

“I am ready for any of the Bantamweight champions including Mexican champion Abner Mares. I want to revenge for Joseph Agbeko. I am ready to challenge him any time and I now this is my time. I want to win a world title for my coach, Mr. Lartey who has handled me all the years since I was am amateur till now” he said.

Duke Micah who sent Ekow Wilson, another unbeaten boxer through the ropes and finally knocked him out in the third round of WBO African title at the Accra Arts Centre last Friday 28th March 2014, hinted that he will become the next great boxer from Ghana. “Our generation has not seen any durable or worthy champion and I promise to be the one” he stressed. He thanked Dade Boxing Promotions led by Gideon Quartey for giving him the opportunity on the African Warriors platform and promised to maintain his focus and discipline and do greater things for himself and Ghana. Ekow Micah’s record has dropped to 14 wins, one defeat with 13 knock outs.

On the “Night of Future Champions”, Raymond Commey also known as Chorkor Banku became the first boxer to win an African Warriors title. He beat David Kotey on points in an interesting bout to win the virgin Super Bantamweight title.

Maxwell Amponsah, another Olympian won his professional fight by beating George Benson and told the world to watch out for the first Ghanaian to win a world heavyweight crown.
