Powers and Banku agree to May 16 fight

Cruiser weight boxers Michael “Ayitey Powers” Okine and Braima “Bukom Banku” Kamoko have agreed to fight on May 16, 2014 in a non-title bout at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Box Office Promotions led by Alex Ntiamoah organized a press conference at the Media Centre of the Stadium to confirm the date and assured boxing fans that the fight is coming on and all those who have bought tickets with the April 18, 2014 date still stand the chance of watching the big fight.

He said the rates of 100ghc for VIP, 50ghc for second VIP and 10ghc for popular stand still hold and urged more boxing fans to come and watch the fight.

President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Peter Zwennes who was elated said he was glad that after the spititual twist, the bout is coming off at the Accra Sports Stadium and believes boxing fans are going to be treated to a good fight.

He expressed that the GBA considered many factors before changing the date and they remained resolute when Ayitey Powers played the hide and seek before signing the supplementary contract.

He urged the boxers to back their words with action as everyone expects a memorable fight and promised them of special awards later in the year.

“Now that the fight is coming on, we know every body is happy and we expect quality boxing. I know both boxers are good and this is an opportunity to sell Ghana Boxing to the outside world. Ghana is noted for producing quality boxers and we shall see the rebirth of the sport after the fight” he said.

President Zwennes wished both boxers well and revealed that very soon a Boxing League for professional boxers would come off soon.

Mr. Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager of Multi Choice, SuperSport agents in Ghana hinted that as a media partner for the big fight, they are ready to support the GBA and boxing promoters to market their products.

He said the Jugdement Night on May 16 is the beginning of greater things to come as the fight would be on a new ring being shipped from South Africa and would be beamed live in over 50 African countries.

Bukom Banku later apologized to the residents of James Town, Korle Gonno, Chorkor and Mamprobi if he had used offensive language on any body and prayed that the best boxer on the night should win.

Ayitey Powers whose fans were charged than previous meetings assured of a good fight and pleaded with fans to make the bout a big sell out for Ghana Boxing since both of them are preparing for world title shots.
