Enhance Corporate Governance to build economy

Mr Alhassan Andani, Managing Director, Stanbic Bank, has called for the enhancement of corporate governance in an effort to build the economy.

He said innovation of the public sector and e-governance, public sector management and employment, public finance and fiscal policy, regulatory policy and risk management, which were the tenets of corporate governance, were very critical in the total development of every country.

Speaking at the 1st District Assembly and Conference of Rotary International (R.I) District 9102 in Accra on Friday, he called for effective budget and public expenditure for any country which wanted to develop.

Rotary International District 9102 is made up of four countries namely: Ghana, Togo, Benin and Niger. The five day conference, which was attended by members from all the four participating countries, was to enable the members to deliberate on issues of importance to the Assembly and how it could move forward.

He charged members of the Rotary Club to be guided by the tenets of the club which emphasized service to mankind and selflessness. Mr Andani, who is also a Rotarian, appealed to people in authority to endeavour to live above reproach so that it would serve as a deterrent to subordinates who might be tempted to indulge in corrupt practices.

District Governor (PDG) Francis Tusubira, from Uganda who represented the President of Rotary International (RI), Ron Burton, said the RI had targeted to raise $1.5 billion for its endowment fund.

He appealed to the members to affect lives around them positively and endeavour to invite people to join the Club.

Winifred Mensah, District Governor of Rotary International District 9012, expressed his appreciation to members for their assistance in eradicating polio completely from Ghana.

For over six years, Rotary International worked tirelessly to get poliomyelitis totally out of Ghana, he added.
