Take corporate governance seriously - Ashigbey

The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, has reiterated the need for local entrepreneurs to view corporate governance as a key tool they can use to enhance their businesses.

He further explained that it was imperative for entrepreneurs to put in systems and structures to help them achieve this.

Speaking at the 4th UT Bank Ghana Entrepreneur awards ceremony in Accra to recognise 30 entrepreneurs for their immense contribution to economic growth and job creation, Mr Ashigbey stressed, “it does not matter how small you are, you need to start with good governance structures now as that will support and enhance your ability to grow to become a big multinational.”

The 2013 Entrepreneur awards was organised by the Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana and was on the theme, “Public Private Partnership (PPP), key to National Development”.

On the use of PPP, Mr Ashigbey urged the government, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and other groups to go the extra mile to put competent Ghanaians together to build their capacity to enjoy the benefits associated with using PPP in business.

“I will also urge all of us entrepreneurs to learn the science and art of business, thinking globally but acting locally.

The world is definitely global now and we cannot work in isolation. Even as we ask our government to support us, we need to prepare to be competitive and also fight for ourselves,” Mr Ashigbey advised.

The Founder of the Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana, Mr Sam Ato Gaisie, in an interview after the programme, reiterated that the public sector alone could not drive the economy without leveraging the expertise of the private sector.

Mr Gaisie said graduates should focus more on creating their own businesses, and added that the entrepreneurs’ awards were not about entrepreneurs who were rich but about people who had the entrepreneurial spirit to strive to the top.
