Accident claims one life at Apam Junction

One person died on the spot, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a Nissan pickup collided with a Toyota Hiace minibus at a spot near Apam Junction on the Accra-Cape Coast highway last Friday.

The Nissan pickup, with registration number GT3316-11, was heading from Cape Coast towards Accra while the minibus, with registration number CR 701-13, was from Accra to Cape Coast - when the accident occurred.

The body of the deceased, a male who was on board the Toyota Hiace, has been deposited at the Winneba Government Hospital for autopsy.

Head-on collision

Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Apam District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Lawrence Lumor, said the accident occurred around 3p.m.

He said the Nissan pickup, which was from Cape Coast, upon reaching a spot near Apam Junction, had a head-on collision with the Toyota, which led to the death of a passenger, while others got severely injured.

According to him, the drivers of both vehicles who escaped death and the other passengers were rushed to the Saint Luke Catholic Hospital at Apam for immediate medical attention.

He stated that the police were awaiting the recovery of the injured to assist them in further investigations.

As of the time of filing this report, the injured were responding to treatment.
