Bature: National Economic Forum needless

Managing Editor of The Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu, has emphatically stated that the on-going Economic Forum in Akosombo is not necessary.

The four-day forum organized by the government is intended to revamp Ghana’s bedridden economy under the Mahama-led administration.

According to government, they are hoping to achieve consensus on policies, strategies and measures that are required to accelerate Ghana’s transition from a lower middle income nation to an upper middle income economy with sustainable path of development that guarantees improvements in the quality of life for all Ghanaians.

Over 200 participants, including government officials, the private sector and cross section of the Ghanaian public are currently digesting ideas at the plush Royal Senchi hotel in Akosombo.

The NPP has, however, boycotted the forum describing it as a “PR Gimmick”. However, many have expressed dismay of the ongoing forum.

Speaking on Adom FM, Alhaji Bature, a sympathizer of the ruling party, said “I thought that the economic forum is not necessary but they [government] have decided to organize it and they are doing it…once they are doing it, we cannot stop them.”

“Personally I thought it is not necessary. The government is trying to be lazy. The Akosombo (forum) will not lead to anything significant or productive…Both NPP and NDC cannot solve Ghana’s economic challenges,” he added.
