Nubuke hosts College of Art students

The Nubuke Foundation in Accra will from Saturday, June 14 to Saturday, July 12, host an exhibition of works by final year art students of the College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

It is the first time that students from the College of Art are being hosted by the foundation, a non-governmental institution founded in 2006 to promote the visual arts, culture and heritage of Ghana.

Nubuke Foundation sources indicate that the exhibition would be the start of an annual event to showcase the important contribution being made by the students and teachers from the College of Art.

The works to be shown have been selected from the students’ final year presentations.

“Unfortunately, it is not all of their works that would be on show but we hope that by supporting the students to ‘step out’ of their comfort zone, we would encourage them to continue working and not put their talents aside after graduation,” Odile Tevie of Nubuke said.

“Their talents which have been nurtured in the college in the last four years have come into bloom and we urge the general public to come and support them.”

Works to be exhibited include installations, photography, performance, paintings and mixed media.

Topics explored by the students for the exhibition include consumerism, human rights and trade.
