Alan will save his political career if... – NPP MP

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru is calling on flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kyerematen, to rescind his decision to contest the presidential primaries slated for December 6, 2014.
According to Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Kyerematen’s political career will come to an end if he goes ahead to contest the 2012 presidential candidate of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo, who is most popular and marketed in the party.
“As a politician, you have to study the trend and atmosphere and make the right decision; don’t allow anybody to give you a bad advice. If you [Alan] step down for Akufo-Addo, you will become the automatic heir,” he stressed.
Osei Nyarko’s comments come after five interested presidential hopefuls have picked nomination forms to contest the party primaries.
They include Asuogyaman MP Kofi Ameyaw Osei, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Nana Akufo-Addo, former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng and Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh.
It is likely the numbers might increase since Alan Kyerematen, MP for Essikado-Ketan Joe Ghartey and Professor Frimpong Boateng are yet to pick their forms.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, said the NPP will be shooting itself in the foot if it allows all of them to contest.
He explained that the seeming division in the party is as a result of the power struggle among some over ambitious people seeking to lead the party.
Osei Nyarko noted that all the aspirants especially Alan Kyerematen, will be doing himself a lot of good if he steps down because “if you [Alan] make the right decision at a wrong time, you are doomed forever”.
“I’m having sleepless nights due to what is happening in the party. It is as if we have not learnt our lessons. We pride ourselves as being democratic and yet we are in opposition,” he bemoaned.
The Akyem Swedru MP could not fathom why the current leadership did not institute measures to debar a lot of people from contesting.
“Repeating our mistakes in 2007 will be suicidal for the NPP. I will urge the leadership to sit all the aspirants down, come to a compromise and allow one person to go”.
Osei Nyarko stated emphatically that “if the executives are able to come to a compromise and allow only Akufo-Addo to go that will be the end of our problems”.
