I’m disappointed in Ohene Ntow - Osei Prempeh

A former deputy attorney general in the Kufour administration, Kwame Osei Prempeh, has expressed shock at the demeanour of former General Secretary of the party, Nana Ohene Ntow, concerning calls for the party to go for an early congress.

According to him, Ohene Ntow's opposition toward such calls is just to enable his preferred candidate in the flagbearership race garner more support is surprising.

Osei Prempeh’s comment comes after supporters of presidential hopeful, Alan Kyeremantenm described as absurd a proposal by ten regional chairmen of the party for the National Executive Committee to seriously consider holding the primaries in September instead of December as proposed by the NPP’s national council.

Ohene Ntow as spokesperson of the Alan Kyerematen campaign insisted that the party needs more time to exhaust all the processes involved before the primaries.

But Osei Prempeh, who is in favour of an early congress in an interview with Joy News, said “I’m disappointed in Nana Ohene Ntow.

He could not fathom why a former General Secretary would put personal interest above party interest at a time he says the NPP’s future in Ghana's body politic is at risk.

The former Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang noted that the NPP is at the cross-roads hence it will not be in any body’s interest to allow a lot of people to contest the presidential primaries.

He cited how similar contests in the 2008 and 2012 respectively did not only divide the party, but also led to their defeat to corroborate his claims.

Osei Prempeh stated unequivocally that only Nana Akufo-Addo would lead the party back to power in 2016.
