New product to decompose liquid, solid waste

The Natural Organic Limited, a producer of cosmetic products, as part of its efforts to address the sanitation problems in the country, has introduced a new product meant to decompose waste.

The Super Sewer and Super Septic which is meant to reduce the growth of bacteria and decrease offensive odour from organic waste can be used for domestic and industrial purposes. It also eliminates flies and other insects that feed on liquid and solid waste. The new detergent was unveiled at a press launch organised by the Natural Organic Limited last Tuesday in Accra.

Addressing the media at the launch of the product, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Natural Organic Limited, Mr Sandy Osei-Agyeman, said the frequent disposal of liquid and solid waste into water bodies and landfill sites produced offensive odour thereby inviting flies, adding that the situation exposed the public to complicated health hazards such as cholera and diarrhoea.

That, he lamented, was worrying, and stated that it informed his decision to introduce the product unto the Ghanaian market, being the first of its kind. According to him, the product could be used to remove grease and oil from a material. He said he was hopeful that the product would be of immense benefit to the public.

Mr Osei-Agyeman explained that a measurable amount was mixed with water and poured on the waste and left for some days. He added that it takes gradual process to work effectively.

According to him, the use of the detergent would help address the sanitation problems and enable Ghana to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Seven on Environment and Sanitation. Mr Osei-Agyeman said it would also help neutralise impurities as a decomposable cleaner and allowed the free-flow of garbage and stagnant water in the drains.
