Group damns labour’s ‘indecent’ demo

The leadership of organized labour stands accused of “sabotaging and undermining” government’s economic recovery process as they foist Thursday’s nationwide demonstration on workers.

According to the Reform for Youth Empowerment, though unionized labour is very much aware of pragmatic steps being taken by government to arrest the worsening economic situation and improve living standards, it wants to see government fail.

“This egomania sponsored demonstration speaks to the growing evidence that unlike ordinary workers, the leadership of Organized Labour is unwilling to sacrifice and support the NDC’s government medium and long- term (pragmatic) economic measures to finding lasting solutions to reoccurring short-term fiscal challenges often occasioned by volatilities inherent in the import market structured economy,” Ebenezer Arkutu the group’s General Secretary said in a statement.

The statement said it is only out of “dishonesty” that labour would suggest that the president is insensitive to the plight of workers.

“It is without controversy and doubt that Organized Labour, led by TUC, is in indecent haste to see the NDC Government fail – hence the intended nationwide strike and/or demonstration on Thursday, 24th July 2014 clearly is meant to sabotage and undermine the ongoing efforts towards economic recovery.”
