Four rooms burnt at KNUST Unity Hall

Four rooms on the 6th Floor of Unity Hall, Block B at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi have been gutted by fire.

A student, Hammond Kwabena Jamal told Citi News that the fire started around 3pm.

“As about 3:00pm I got information that the block was on fire so I decided to rush down there. When I got there and one of the rooms was on fire, that was Block B, the sixth floor I don’t know the exact room number.”

He said the fire officers have arrived at the scene to put the fire out.

“It started for a while and after about 15 minutes the fire service reported, and then they were trying to get the water into the room but it was proving quite difficult. After a while the fire got into the next room.

"As at now I can say four rooms are burnt….but the fire service personnel are still here,” he added.

The extent of damage and the cause of the fire are yet to be established.
