Eric Amoateng granted Ghc200,000 bail

Former Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng has been put before the Accra Circuit Court and charged with one count of possessing forged documents.

The prosecution said he allegedly travelled to Ghana on a passport belonging to a female after serving his 10-year jail term in the USA on a drug-related offence.

He pleaded not guilty to one count of possessing forged documents and was granted bail in the sum of Ghc200,000 with three sureties, one to be justified.

The court, presided over by Ms Ellen Vivian Amoah declined the prosecution request to remand him in custody.

Court correspondents Mabel Aku Baneseh and Nana Konadu Agyemang have reported that he has been bailed to reappear on August 26, 2014.

He was upset as reporters attempted to take photographs of him and said, “If you wanna take my picture, you gotta seek my permission.”
